Bonnie's actions
At Work
Use Reusables at Work
I will keep 10 forks, spoons, and/or knives from entering the landfill by using reusable utensils when eating at work.
At Home
Shorter Showers
I will save up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers.
Health & Well-being
Reduce Refined Sugar
I will adopt a diet free of refined sugars, which eliminates sweetened beverages, candy, and processed foods.
At Home
Practice the 5 r's
I will Practice the "5 Rs" — refuse, reduce, reuse, repurpose, and recycle — to reduce my waste more than I can with just recycling alone.
In Our Communities
Support Local Wildlife
I will take one action to support local wildlife, such as adding a food or water source, creating shelter/habitat, preventing light pollution, eliminating bird strikes, or another action.
In Our Communities
MAINE COMMUTER SURVEY
Support GoMaine by completing the Maine Commuter survey. The data helps inform commuting needs in our state. Follow the link to take the survey and be entered into a raffle for $50 gift certificate!
Health & Well-being
Celebrate a Personal Win
No one person can do everything, but we can all do something. Making one person's worth of difference matters! Share an impact you made related to an Ecochallenge action that you are proud of in the feed.
At Work
Greenwashing
I will spend 30 minutes learning about greenwashing and how to avoid it.
At Work
2025 Pledge at Work
I pledge to take one action that improves the sustainability of my organization in 2025. It can be an action from this challenge or another action that improves resource stewardship.
At Work
Turn It Off
I will turn my computer monitor(s) off at my work station when not in use to save energy (I will follow my organization's IT instructions for keeping on, turning off, or restarting computers).
Health & Well-being
Do Nature Activities
I will engage in nature-based activities alone, or with my friends or family, for 30 minute(s) each day. (This can be anything from going on a walk or hike, to noticing the leaves changing color, to reading a book with nature themes.)
Health & Well-being
More Fruits and Veggies
I will eat a heart healthy diet by adding 1 cup(s) of fruits and vegetables each day to achieve at least 4 cups per day.
In Our Communities
Keep My Community Clean
I will pick up 1 piece(s) of litter each day.
At Home
At Home Compost Reimbursement
Check out Espresa's Platform-- did you know you can get reimbursed for at home composting? Composting reduces GHG emissions by as much as 70% vs landfilling organic waste.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

I joined a community clean-up last night at Apres, hosted by Rubbish (check out their website, they're doing really cool things: PORTLAND | Rubbish Project.)
75 people joined and we picked up litter in the Bayside area for 1 hour. In that time, we gathered 197 pounds! It was so inspiring to see how a group of like-minded people could really make a difference in such a short amount of time.
I highly encourage everyone to check out the summer Rubbish schedule (on the website) and join a clean-up or two. It felt good to help out. Happy Earth Month!-

I love this! Thanks for sharing! Many don't realize the seemingly "little" things we do everyday add up and have a huge impact...it's up to us to make the decision if our actions will have a positive or negative impact. This ecochallenge has opened my eyes to so many additional things I can do each day to have even a greater positive impact on our environment :)
