Learn the Truth about Expiration Dates
I will spend at least 15 minutes learning how to differentiate between sell by, use by, and best by dates.
In Our Communities
Use Reusable Bags
I will refuse 5 of single-use paper or plastic bags each day by bringing my own reusable bags or carrying purchased goods another way.
One Healthcare
Environmental Footprint of Healthcare
I will spend 20 minutes learning about the environmental footprint of the healthcare industry, how it impacts health, and ways I can help reduce it.
At Home
Adjust the Thermostat
I will adjust my thermostat down 2 degrees from usual when I use the heat, and up 2 degrees when I use air conditioning.
One Healthcare
Donate Blood
I will donate blood in my community to make sure there are adequate supplies for routine medical services and emergencies.
At Home
Practice the 5 r's
I will Practice the "5 Rs" — refuse, reduce, reuse, repurpose, and recycle — to reduce my waste more than I can with just recycling alone.
At Home
Brush My Teeth Without Water Running
I will save up to 4 gallons (15 L) of water each day by turning it off while brushing my teeth.
In Our Communities
Plant Trees
I will plant 5 tree(s) in my community, public parks, or backyard. Check out resources for which tree species are best to plant in your area.
One Healthcare

In Our Communities
Support Diverse and Locally-Owned Businesses
I will promote equity and support my community by purchasing items at 3 diverse- and/or locally-owned businesses.
One Healthcare
Use A Reusable Mug/Bottle
I will keep 10 disposable cup(s) and/or bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle, cup, or mug.
One Healthcare
Green Gratitude
I will recognize 2 colleague(s) for their sustainability efforts by thanking them on our team feed, in-person, by email, and/or through my organization's recognition platforms.
At Home
Switch to Cold Water
I will switch to washing my clothes in cold water, saving up to 1,600 lbs of CO2 over the course of the next year.

REFLECTION QUESTIONIn Our Communities Use Reusable BagsWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items, but don't have a reusable one with you or aren't allowed to use the one you brought? What tips do you have for others who are trying to form a habit of using reusable bags?
Jolene Anderson-Rau 4/11/2024 8:09 AMI'm in the beginning stages of thinking about using reusable bags.-
Melissa Ondricek 4/11/2024 9:18 AMI keep a bag of reusable bags in the back of my car at all times. If I forget to bring the ones I just used for groceries back out to the car I have 5 others to take their place. I also hang the ones I just used on the garage door to make it difficult to forget to bring them back outside.
