At Work
Turn It Off
I will turn my computer monitor(s) off at my work station when not in use to save energy (I will follow my organization's IT instructions for keeping on, turning off, or restarting computers).
At Work
Last to Leave? Lights Out, Please!
Lighting makes up approximately 10% of hospitals' energy use on average. I will save energy by turning off unnecessary lights when not in use and when I am the last one to leave a space.
At Work
Recycling Champion
I will recycle 2 items at work and/or at home each day, making sure I review recycling program guidelines and only place accepted items that are clean, empty, and dry in the recycling bin.
At Home
Learn the Truth about Expiration Dates
I will spend at least 10 minutes learning how to differentiate between sell by, use by, and best by dates.
One Healthcare

REFLECTION QUESTIONOne HealthcareDid you learn anything that surprised you about the environmental impact of operating rooms? What are some barriers to greening ORs, and how can departments work together to help overcome these barriers?
Jessica Jami Bryan 4/29/2025 11:26 AMI was very surprised to learn that desflurane contributes to greenhouse gas emissions or that healthcare contributes 8% to the problem. That is significant. I think the first barrier to greening ORs is knowledge. Getting the word out to staff and leadership who make decisions on what we use is the first step.
