Melissa Cantarow 4/14/2025 11:52 AMToday I've been able to connect with a peer from another hospital in Mass, one in LA and someone who helped implement sustainability measures at UVA. Each gave me a new appreciation for how other organizations are approaching sustainability and gave me some fresh ideas for how to think about our program. -

I spent some time learning about the food waste from an organization called Spoonfuls. One tangible takeaway is that onions and potatoes should be stored separately to prolong their shelf life. I have been storing them together for years (and have had to compost many bad potatoes and onions). Who knew?!

Shout out to @Kate Lewandowski, who after months of work submitted a huge report yesterday to Practice Greenhealth. This process helps us calculate our environmental impact, benchmark us against our peers and inform internal goal setting and project planning. This was a huge effort and deserves some celebration!-

Happy Earth Month! This month I'll be working to advance sustainability efforts at work and at home. At work, I'll be working with colleagues to gather data on our environmental impact and doing research on potential new initiatives. In my personal life, I'll be donating blood, taking some tired shoes to the cobbler and spending more time in nature. Let's go BCH team!
