REFLECTION QUESTIONAt Home Choose Clean/Renewable EnergyWas it easy or difficult to sign up for renewable energy in your area? Did you learn anything that surprised you while making this transition?
Michelle Chase 4/30/2024 10:50 AMWe receive flyer information from our local utility on how to make big and small changes that we plan on implementing over time. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAt Home Choose LED BulbsSwitching out your lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! What other actions do you take to be more energy efficient at home?
Michelle Chase 4/30/2024 10:48 AMI always feel good about using efficient bulbs but also will replace our major appliances over. We are even choosing a more efficient roofing material to help with heating and cooling stability with in the home.-
Michelle Chase 4/30/2024 12:00 PMI have a really hard time throwing things out that are still useful. I am one to hang on to those items and just replace as necessary with items that area more efficient. My last oven I actually just replaced the element on it and kept using it until the whole thing went out. I feel so much better about spending 30 and keeping something that still works and repair within reason. -
Zoe Anastas (SWMC) 4/30/2024 11:55 AMI vacillate about purchasing new appliances as the old ones will go in the landfill, right? If appliances are still working, even if they are less efficient, I don't like to get rid of them for new ones. For example, our dishwasher is the original from our house so it is 24 years old. However, it still works. Should I get a new dishwasher that would be more energy and water efficient but this one would go to the landfill and get a new one that may last 15 years?

REFLECTION QUESTIONIn Our Communities Buy From a Farmers MarketDid procuring local ingredients impact the way you think about food or the meals you decided to prepare? If so, how?
Michelle Chase 4/30/2024 7:36 AMI love strolling through a market picking up fresh fruits and vegetables and a big bouquet of flowers! Having fresh flowers in the home is so uplifting!-
Grace Yu 4/30/2024 2:29 PMI agree! I have also learned to enjoy how flavorful fruits and vegetables are when they are in peak season.

Michelle Chase 4/26/2024 3:07 PMI love my Zojirushi travel mug that I use just for coffee. Keeps it hot all day long. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAt Home Adjust the ThermostatWhat other steps can you take each day to heat and cool your home more efficiently?
Michelle Chase 4/26/2024 3:06 PMWe will make sure our thermostat is set cooler during the night. We also keep an extra blanket or two on the couch when we get cold. Making sure all windows are closed and latched to prevent air drafts losing warm air. You can check your doors for drafts and even check your roof and attic insulation to make sure you are not losing extra heat from your home. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAt Home Brush My Teeth Without Water RunningDo you live in an area that is water secure or with water scarcity? What other actions do you take to use water more efficiently?
Michelle Chase 4/26/2024 11:46 AMI choose this challenge because I was letting the water run until hot while I brushed my teeth because my teeth are cold sensitive. But I have adapted to shutting the water off and being more careful about using less cold water during my rinse. -
Michelle Chase 4/26/2024 9:38 AMI really enjoy doing things that are meaningful. Being able to reduce printing items at work. Or making sure recyclable items are placed accordingly. It secretly drives me crazy when people throw garbage items in the food waste bins. Especially when they are right next to each other. It doesn't take any more energy to be mindful of the environment.-
Zoe Anastas (SWMC) 4/26/2024 5:46 PMAgreed! I think that people just don't pay attention to the difference. Signs help or education... -
Michelle Chase 4/26/2024 11:23 AMI am not neurotic about it but just needs some simple processing to be better. -
Melissa Ondricek 4/26/2024 11:13 AMPreach! Also drives me crazy.
