I read this extra article about how long to keep leftovers.

I’m a labeling nerd and find that a roll of wide scotch tape and a marker in the kitchen make labeling a breeze! - and also help avoid throwing out “mystery” food!

What did you learn about expiration dates? How do you reduce food waste at home? What are some additional ways you can reduce food waste?

I learned that “use by” and “ best if used by” dates are aimed at quality goals and are not an indicator that consuming after that date is unsafe.

I find that I lump many manufacturer dates together in my head and mostly follow food safety principles when deciding how long to keep things to avoid food waste!

Great work in the challenge everyone! What is your favorite activity you’ve done so far?

Our lead on the Cleveland Clinic teams has shrunk, so keep up the great work to see if we can stay on top of the organizations board!

My goal is include sustainability in purchasing decisions. Last week in contract conversations I requested that recycled content be included in the information provided by the vendors!

How did performing random acts of kindness make you feel? Were you surprised by any of the responses you received from recipients?

I always LOVE random acts of kindness! Simple things like holding a door or an elevator, offering a hand that wasn’t asked for or complimenting a stranger bring me joy. I’m surprised that most people are surprised at receiving a random act of kindness and enjoy that it usually brings a smile to their face as well 😊

    Happy Friday!
I took some time today to add a few more action items for the challenge and mark a few things that I already do. Looking forward to seeing what our team can accomplish during the challenge!
