Teresa's actions
Health & Well-being
Gardener exercise
Plant a new garden area to support beneficial insects starting from an overgrown 3 x 8 section.
In Our Communities
Support Pollution Reduction
I will spend at least 60 minutes learning about water and air quality issues in my area, how they are impacting human and environmental health, and how I can help.
Health & Well-being
More Fruits and Veggies
I will eat a heart healthy diet by adding 2 cup(s) of fruits and vegetables each day to achieve at least 4 cups per day.
At Home
Compost Food Waste
I will avoid sending food waste to the landfill by composting my food scraps.
At Home
Whole Foods Diet
I will enjoy 2 meal(s) each day free of processed foods.
Health & Well-being
Gratitude
I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for every day.
At Home
Needs Vs. Wants
I will adopt a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach and only buy things I need.
At Home
Practice the 5 r's
I will Practice the "5 Rs" — refuse, reduce, reuse, repurpose, and recycle — to reduce my waste more than I can with just recycling alone.
At Home
Switch to Cold Water
I will switch to washing my clothes in cold water, saving up to 1,600 lbs of CO2 over the course of the next year.
At Home
Adjust the Thermostat
I will adjust my thermostat down 2 degrees from usual when I use the heat, and up 2 degrees when I use air conditioning.
At Home
Repair an Item
I will repair an item, such as clothing or an appliance, for myself, a friend, family member, or neighbor.
In Our Communities
Donate Items
I will help others in need and prevent useful items from going to landfill by donating 10 items.
In Our Communities
Buy From a Farmers Market
I will purchase produce and/or meat from a local farmers market or food co-op to make 10 locally-sourced meals.

Teresa DeUnger 4/23/2024 9:07 AMSometimes it's a bit hard to find the time to check in each day. Otherwise it's an excellent way to encourage more mindfulness. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIn Our Communities Donate ItemsWhy is it important to consider how and to whom you donate your no-longer-needed items?
Teresa DeUnger 4/23/2024 9:06 AMI don't want to add more to the waste. Sometimes we just donate without taking an actual look at what an organization needs or can use. Animal rescue organizations can take towels and sheets that are worn where some human supporting places might consider it (and make it) trash. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & Well-being GratitudeWhat is one thing that you are grateful for today? How does practicing gratitude make you feel?
Teresa DeUnger 4/23/2024 9:03 AMI am grateful that I have options, that there are so many ways to be better, kinder, more supportive and I am able to share with others who may not have the same options. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAt Home Needs Vs. WantsHow is creativity a necessary ingredient for practicing simplicity?
Teresa DeUnger 4/23/2024 9:00 AMCreativity can help decide on options rather than just an immediate decision that I need something. Thinking out of the ordinary, creating something that looks nothing like the original items. -
Teresa DeUnger 4/01/2024 12:55 PMI joined the challenge once again to learn more and see the new ideas of others. Every small action makes a difference.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONAt Home Compost Food WasteNew to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? How will you use your compost once it is ready?
Teresa DeUnger 4/01/2024 12:52 PMYesterday was Easter and I noticed how many items like veggie peels I have been wasting. I'm growing more plants than ever so compost will be a welcome addition that saves money as well as reducing waste.
