Practice the 5 r's
I will Practice the "5 Rs" — refuse, reduce, reuse, repurpose, and recycle — to reduce my waste more than I can with just recycling alone.
At Home
Shorter Showers
I will save up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers.
At Home

I will adopt a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach and only buy things I need.

Health & Well-being
Exercise Daily
Exercise is a great stress blaster! I will exercise for 60 minute(s) each day.
Health & Well-being
Gratitude
I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for every day.
Health & Well-being
Less Screen Time
I will replace 60 minute(s) of screen time per day with other activities, and limit my social media use to once per day.
Health & Well-being
Do Nature Activities
I will engage in nature-based activities alone, or with my friends or family, for 20 minute(s) each day. (This can be anything from going on a walk or hike, to noticing the leaves changing color, to reading a book with nature themes.)
At Home
Brush My Teeth Without Water Running
I will save up to 4 gallons (15 L) of water each day by turning it off while brushing my teeth.
At Home
At Home Compost Reimbursement
Check out Espresa's Platform-- did you know you can get reimbursed for at home composting? Composting reduces GHG emissions by as much as 70% vs landfilling organic waste.

Last day of the EcoChallenge! 🌿 Let’s finish strong and carry these green habits into everyday life—our planet will thank us. 💚 -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAt HomeDo you compost at home through a pick-up service? Any companies you'd recommend?
Bridget DiPhilippo 4/24/2025 12:57 PMWe don’t compost at home yet, but we’re definitely interested in getting started! I’d love to hear if anyone has a pick-up service they love—it seems like such a great way to cut down on waste. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAt WorkWhat have you found to be the biggest pros and cons of working from home?
Bridget DiPhilippo 4/24/2025 12:55 PM- Energy Saver 💡
The biggest pro of working from home is having a flexible routine (and wearing comfy clothes!); the con is missing those spontaneous hallway office chats and connections that make the day more fun. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & Well-beingHow do you practice self care? Why is it important?
Bridget DiPhilippo 4/24/2025 12:53 PM- Energy Saver 💡
I practice my self care by going to spin class and spending time outside—it helps me clear my head and feel grounded. Taking care of myself keeps me energized and ready to show up fully for others!-
Monica Hautau-Mallow 4/24/2025 4:12 PM- Everyday Earth Hero 💚
That's so important. Way to go. It's hard finding time to do things important like that for yourself. But as you pointed out, it really helps in showing up fully for others. :)

Earth Day yesterday was a powerful reminder of the impact our daily choices have on the planet! Participating in the EcoChallenge has me reflecting on how small, consistent actions can lead to meaningful change. 🌍💚 -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & Well-beingWhat did you notice in implementing this challenge? Was it hard to choose other activities over screen time? How did you decide to spend your time?
Bridget DiPhilippo 4/23/2025 6:06 AM- Energy Saver 💡
I noticed I had way more time than I thought! At first, it was hard not to default to my phone, but I started going for walks, reading, or just catching up with people instead. It felt surprisingly good. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAt HomeDo you live in an area that is water secure or with water scarcity? What other actions do you take to use water more efficiently?
Bridget DiPhilippo 4/23/2025 6:05 AM- Energy Saver 💡
I live in Portland - which is generally water secure (I believe). Still, I try to use water efficiently by taking quick showers, running full loads of laundry, and not letting the tap run while brushing my teeth. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAt HomeName some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?
Bridget DiPhilippo 4/09/2025 10:38 AM- Energy Saver 💡
Things like pollution, overuse, and dumping waste harm water systems, but I try to help by reducing plastic use, picking up litter, and being mindful of what goes down the drain. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & Well-beingHow can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?
Bridget DiPhilippo 4/09/2025 10:36 AM- Energy Saver 💡
My husband and I use working out together as quality time—whether we’re walking the dog somewhere nice or going to the gym side by side. It’s a great way to stay active while also connecting with each other and enjoying the outdoors. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONOne HealthcareHow did performing random acts of kindness make you feel? Were you surprised by any of the responses you received from recipients?
Bridget DiPhilippo 4/02/2025 12:36 PM- Energy Saver 💡
I love that just a small act could brighten someone's day. Something as simple as holding the door open for a person with an arm full of bags and paying a person a compliment can make a difference. This is a great reminder that kindness doesn’t take much effort!
