Sara's actions
At Work
Greener Purchasing
I will select a greener option when purchasing supplies, such as products that have environmental certifications, less packaging, or other environmental attributes, or come from local vendors.
At Work
Last to Leave? Lights Out, Please!
Lighting makes up approximately 10% of hospitals' energy use on average. I will save energy by turning off unnecessary lights when not in use and when I am the last one to leave a space.
In Our Communities
Support Diverse and Locally-Owned Businesses
I will promote equity and support my community by purchasing items at 6 diverse- and/or locally-owned businesses.
At Work
Turn It Off
I will turn my computer monitor(s) off at my work station when not in use to save energy (I will follow my organization's IT instructions for keeping on, turning off, or restarting computers).
In Our Communities
Donate Items
I will help others in need and prevent useful items from going to landfill by donating 20 items.
Health & Well-being
Go Get a Check Up
I will make 2 appointments to support my health and well-being (primary care provider, dental, vision, etc.)
At Work
Work From Home
I will work from home 5 day(s) to avoid my commute's carbon output.
At Home
Switch to Cold Water
I will switch to washing my clothes in cold water, saving up to 1,600 lbs of CO2 over the course of the next year.
Health & Well-being
Taking Steps to Promote Well-being
I will increase my step count by 4000 each day and will take breaks from sitting by briefly getting up and moving once per hour during the day.
At Home
Brush My Teeth Without Water Running
I will save up to 4 gallons (15 L) of water each day by turning it off while brushing my teeth.
In Our Communities
Buy From a Farmers Market
I will purchase produce and/or meat from a local farmers market or food co-op to make 8 locally-sourced meals.
Health & Well-being
Do Nature Activities
I will engage in nature-based activities alone, or with my friends or family, for 20 minute(s) each day. (This can be anything from going on a walk or hike, to noticing the leaves changing color, to reading a book with nature themes.)
At Home
Learn the Truth about Expiration Dates
I will spend at least 10 minutes learning how to differentiate between sell by, use by, and best by dates.
At Home
Whole Foods Diet
I will enjoy 1 meal(s) each day free of processed foods.
At Home
Repair an Item
I will repair an item, such as clothing or an appliance, for myself, a friend, family member, or neighbor.
At Home
Choose LED Bulbs
I will replace 6 incandescent lightbulb(s) with Energy Star-certified LED bulbs, saving up to $14 per fixture per year.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Sara Doud (PHMG- Bellingham) 4/11/2024 6:51 AMIt's been going great, the biggest change for me has been really "stepping" up my walking game again. I went from walking once a week or so to taking a 3-4 mile walk (in addition to whatever other steps I get) every day.-
Sara Rediske (SWMC) 4/25/2024 3:05 PMThis is a hopeful thing for me to read. I have slowly gotten in the habit of a weekly walk. I think I am ready to either add an additional day or more minutes onto the weekly walk. Thank you for posting this!
