REFLECTION QUESTIONIn Our Communities Support Pollution ReductionWhat environmental factors affect human health in your region, and how do they affect it?
Amy Downey 4/26/2024 6:45 AMWe are very dependent on cars for transportation. Our communities are not set up for walking. There is a small amount I can get done by bike.
It shows up in overweight/obesity/stroke rates as well. We can all benefit from routine physical activity. Starting low and increasing incrementally. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONOne Healthcare Environmental Footprint of HealthcareWhat surprised you most about the healthcare industry's impact on climate and health? What is one action you can take to make a positive impact?
Amy Downey 4/26/2024 6:41 AMIt's difficult to balance sterilization cost vs disposable items. I know reducing food waste is always a huge impact! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONOne Healthcare Climate Change Impacts on HealthHow does climate change create and exacerbate health inequities?
Amy Downey 4/26/2024 6:38 AMThis feels so macro and so far away, but it's a fast train in the distance that keeps coming toward us. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONOne Healthcare Random Act of KindnessHow did performing random acts of kindness make you feel? Were you surprised by any of the responses you received from recipients?
Amy Downey 4/23/2024 5:16 AMI'm service oriented by nature. (enneagram 2) My actual problem is serving people in the way they want to be served instead of the way I think they want to be served.
This takes a lot of brain power and retraining. It's a lot of work.
Helping out strangers is probably more rewarding because I don't have to worry about their response so much. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & Well-being More Fruits and VeggiesHow does eating more fruits and vegetables and less meat positively affect yourself, other people, and our planet? What creative ways did you find to add more fruits and vegetables to your diet?
Amy Downey 4/23/2024 5:13 AMI blend spinach or salad greens that need to be used up into my breakfast smoothie. This reduces food waste and increases my fruit/vegetable intake! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAt Work Reduce Animal ProductsHow does eating more meat affect our planet and other people? What is your favorite meatless dish or recipe?
Amy Downey 4/23/2024 5:12 AMI've saved money by increasing the number of meatless meals I eat. I've also had to plan ahead. This is also leading to savings and more balanced meals. -
Amy Downey 4/22/2024 12:11 PMI made a big batch of lentil curry and have it for lunch every day! What an easy way to eat more healthfully and have a guaranteed vegan meal every day.-
Amy Downey 4/22/2024 1:33 PMyum!! -
Wendy Stultz (Riverbend Annex) 4/22/2024 12:37 PMThat sounds excellent. I think I will make a big pot of kasha (buckwheat groats) as the base of my meals for the rest of the week- it can go savory with veggies (almost in place of rice or grains) or sweet (almost in place of oats). Enjoy your lunches!

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & Well-being GratitudeWhat is one thing that you are grateful for today? How does practicing gratitude make you feel?
Amy Downey 4/17/2024 6:21 AMThe ability to regulate my temperature is such a blessing. I can work with the window open, put on cooler clothing, turn on a fan, switch to A/C. I'm thankful I have so many options.-
Atlas Tsai 4/17/2024 8:05 AMOh this is an awesome one! Always amazing to be grateful for little things that make our lives easier.

REFLECTION QUESTIONAt Home Repair an ItemWhat was the last item you repaired? How did you do it and what was the outcome? What are your favorite resources for learning how to repair items yourself?
Amy Downey 4/16/2024 1:40 PMMy son's shirt seam was tearing on his favorite shirt. Now that I've repaired the item he can wear it again! and we saved the shirt from the landfill prematurely.-
Melissa Ondricek 4/16/2024 2:07 PMDid you know that you can recycle old clothes and shoes that are too worn out to be donated to a thrift store? Check out this the take back bag to turn old fabrics into insulation for homes and get store credit to buy something new. For Days | Take Back Bag

REFLECTION QUESTIONIn Our Communities Donate ItemsWhy is it important to consider how and to whom you donate your no-longer-needed items?
Amy Downey 4/16/2024 1:38 PMI love decluttering and I was able to help streamline my family's home by donating items my children have grown out of. This help people in the community and my own family because it decreases stress of having excess stuff in our home.-
Amy Downey 4/22/2024 1:33 PMSo cool!! Amazing how many passes it takes to really get down to the minimum. The first time I go through is a lot gone, but each time I do it, I still get more we no longer need. What a burden "just in case" items can be! Especially when you forgot you had it and bought another one! -
Jessie Poskochil 4/20/2024 9:14 AMI love this! My mom and I are working on this right now too!
