Erin's actions
At Work
Turn It Off
I will turn my computer monitor(s) off at my work station when not in use to save energy (I will follow my organization's IT instructions for keeping on, turning off, or restarting computers).
At Work
Use Reusables at Work
I will keep 10 forks, spoons, and/or knives from entering the landfill by using reusable utensils when eating at work.
Health & Well-being
More Fruits and Veggies
I will eat a heart healthy diet by adding 1 cup(s) of fruits and vegetables each day to achieve at least 4 cups per day.
At Work
Last to Leave? Lights Out, Please!
Lighting makes up approximately 10% of hospitals' energy use on average. I will save energy by turning off unnecessary lights when not in use and when I am the last one to leave a space.
In Our Communities
Buy From a Farmers Market
I will purchase produce and/or meat from a local farmers market or food co-op to make 5 locally-sourced meals.
In Our Communities
Donate Items
I will help others in need and prevent useful items from going to landfill by donating 5 items.
In Our Communities
Support Local Wildlife
I will take one action to support local wildlife, such as adding a food or water source, creating shelter/habitat, preventing light pollution, eliminating bird strikes, or another action.
Health & Well-being
Creative Expression
I will reflect on how I am feeling and express myself through writing, art, music, physical activity, or another creative way to enhance well-being
In Our Communities
Keep My Community Clean
I will pick up 2 piece(s) of litter each day.
Health & Well-being
Do Nature Activities
I will engage in nature-based activities alone, or with my friends or family, for 10 minute(s) each day. (This can be anything from going on a walk or hike, to noticing the leaves changing color, to reading a book with nature themes.)

REFLECTION QUESTIONAt WorkHow could you encourage your coworkers to develop the habit of turning lights off?
Erin Edwards 4/01/2025 1:23 PMAs I'm saying my goodbyes to those that remain in the office, add in a reminder that whoever is last to leave turn the lights off. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAt WorkWhile one's plastic cutlery is a seemingly very small part of someone's "plastic impact", why do you think it's important for us to address this opportunity to reduce?
Erin Edwards 4/01/2025 1:20 PMBecause it's so easy to do - like carrying our Stanley's - we can easily carry a reusable set of cutlery with us.-
Paul Goodenough 4/09/2025 8:30 AMI agree. When we start doing the easy stuff, it carries over into higher and higher impact sustainable actions. Plastic pollution? STICK A (resuable) FORK IN IT! -
Loretta Raburn 4/01/2025 1:33 PMI keep a set of my home silverware and a couple of glass plates in my desk drawer. I wash it after use and put it back. When we have staff lunches I always bring my own stuff to avoid using paper/plastic ware

REFLECTION QUESTIONAt WorkWas this action easy to add to your daily routine? Why or why not?
Erin Edwards 4/01/2025 1:19 PMSuper easy! So much so, it's made me wonder why I didn't start doing this before now. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIn Our CommunitiesHow does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community? What was the most common item you found littered?
Erin Edwards 4/01/2025 1:16 PMIt gives me a sense of ownership - by picking up trash I was able to beautify a small portion of what my neighbors/fellow citizens see when they come through the same area. The most common item I found today was fast food wrappers.-
Paul Goodenough 4/09/2025 8:32 AMDitto to the community wellness power of picking up. One time when I was out on my block, someone slowed down to say thank you. That made me happy and hopeful.

REFLECTION QUESTIONIn Our CommunitiesWhat is your favorite local plant or animal species? Why is it important to support wildlife, even if it is in small ways, in the areas in which we live?
Erin Edwards 4/01/2025 1:13 PMWe have a family of Mourning Doves that live in the trees around our house. I love seeing them return each year and hearing their calls to each other. It's important to support wildlife, such as the doves, because they're an important part of our ecosystem. The disappearance of even one species can have a devastating ripple effect. Every year I adorn my porch with ferns and the doves happily use them to build their nests.-
