Catherine Feit 4/30/2025 9:02 AMI am not sure who put forth the Eco challenge 2025 idea and my participation was sporadic. This has been a great experience. Thank You. I did connect with a co-worker over living more sustainably and got inspired and pushed to downsize my footprint a few sizes smaller. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & Well-beingWhy is it important to express ourselves? How did you feel before and after your creative activity?
Catherine Feit 4/30/2025 8:55 AMThis goal went largely unachieved, but I did make my creative space more attractive and usable. Cleared out and organized materials. Put up a few (dumpstered!) bulletin boards. The contentment that comes from spending time being creative is a guarantee but my prioritizing it is a goal for May. : / -
Catherine Feit 4/28/2025 5:16 AMThis Saturday, we got up early and went out with two grabbers (I inherited from my dad's estate :)) and picked up trash. We covered about one block. Both depressing and energizing. I live in an urban area, but a Cooper's Hawk is occasionally roosting in a tree on the corner. My goal is to make this a routine activity and eventually involve the others on my street. Fingers crossed.-
Joyce Fitzgerald 4/28/2025 6:54 AMThe grabbers make a big difference! I have one that folds up small enough that I can strap it to my bike rack. So I don't even have to get off of my bike to grab trash. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & Well-beingWhat did you notice in implementing this challenge? Was it hard to choose other activities over screen time? How did you decide to spend your time?
Catherine Feit 4/17/2025 10:05 AMInstead of watching by myself I watched with my spouse The Best of Late Night via NYT and once it was over I was done with screen time. Watching with someone reduces my tendency to zone out on screens. Plus, a little community building with spouse. :) -
Catherine Feit 4/17/2025 9:53 AMFor me, new habits start when the old habits become more inconvenient. When we moved into our house, we did not install a clothes dryer. We did get 3 giant clothes racks and set up 3 pulley clothes lines in the yard. We are used to hanging up our clothes, but I doubt I'd stick with this habit if I had access to a dryer. It also forces us to use our clothes differently- no quick turnaround to wash a certain outfit I want to wear again. Unless it is a sunny and windy day. :P We just went down to 1 car. I have to use public transit or bike or shop locally.-

I love the idea of getting rid of the clothes dryer. We dry most of our clothing on a drying rack, but it's been hard to stop putting underwear, tshirts and socks into the dryer. This is a great suggestion, and reminds me that when I lived in Europe I never had access to a clothes dryer.

Catherine Feit 4/10/2025 3:02 PMI started tomatoes, marigolds, peppers, basil, broccoli and eggplant seeds. Almost all have sprouted. I used old trays from previous plant purchases. Very excited. I am hoping to direct seed some cold tolerant stuff this weekend.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONAt WorkWas using public transit to get to your destination easier or more difficult than you expected? How did your experience using public transit differ from your experience driving in a car? What do you think are the biggest barriers to more people using public transit in your area?
Catherine Feit 4/02/2025 2:00 PMI use public transit a lot. I appreciate the time to unplug from navigating traffic. I read or listen to audiobooks, catch up on emails or discussion posts from school. I do wish it was not o slow- especially the buses. :/ -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAt HomeName some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?
Catherine Feit 4/02/2025 1:57 PMPlastics- single use like netting from produce (oranges, avocados, lemons) can impact the oceans. Rainwater being directed into sewers rather than into soil or rain barrels so potable water does need to be used to water the plants.
