At Work

Prevent Recycling Contamination

Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will spend 15 minutes learning about which items are recyclable both at my workplace and at home since they may be different, and recycle only those items.

Use Reusables at Work

I will keep 3 forks, spoons, and/or knives from entering the landfill by using reusable utensils when eating at work.

At Work

Recycling Champion

I will recycle 5 items at work and/or at home each day, making sure I review recycling program guidelines and only place accepted items that are clean, empty, and dry in the recycling bin.

At Work

Last to Leave? Lights Out, Please!

Lighting makes up approximately 10% of hospitals' energy use on average. I will save energy by turning off unnecessary lights when not in use and when I am the last one to leave a space.

I used to keep lights, bathroom fans, and my computer on all the time. Since starting this challenge, I've consistently remembered to shut off/putting to sleep my computer when done, and turning off the bathroom lights/fans. It's become easier for me to do when I take the time to do the action as soon as I am done using, even if I think I will return to the room minutes later, because we all know the amount of distractions that happen and sometimes I don't return to that room hours later. Stopping myself from the "I'll do it later" thinking has completely changed my usage and remind myself that my pocket and the environment will be happier from this small change.
