Healthy Hydration

I will improve hydration by drinking an additional 12oz of water each day. I will do this by drinking additional servings of water or by drinking water in place of other less healthy beverage options.

COMPLETED 2
DAILY ACTIONS

Health & Well-being

Do Nature Activities

I will engage in nature-based activities alone, or with my friends or family, for 20 minute(s) each day. (This can be anything from going on a walk or hike, to noticing the leaves changing color, to reading a book with nature themes.)

COMPLETED 3
DAILY ACTIONS

At Work

Prevent Recycling Contamination

Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will spend 60 minutes learning about which items are recyclable both at my workplace and at home since they may be different, and recycle only those items.

Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

If it's helpful/applicable for your space, there are template signs on the WCM sustainability website that can be printed:

What have you learned about what is accepted by local haulers for recycling, what you can drop off or ship to certain places, and what is not recyclable in your area? What is the most difficult part of recycling for you?

The most important thing I learned from my waste-sorting tour was that NYP has to pay for ALL trash removal and contracts with facilities that are different from NYC. A good motto for teaching recycling within the hospital might be "NYP is NOT NYC: We recycle differently!". I'm going to use this knowledge to help improve recycling in our break room.

Name some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?

All of our cleaning products - shampoo, face wash, laundry detergent -- and our lotions/creams/makeup - all end up in the water when we take a shower/wash our clothes. Minimizing the amount and types of chemicals we add to our water -- especially in places with minimal water treatment plants will help preserve the quality of water for all living things.
