Seattle Children's's actions
One Healthcare
Green Gratitude
I will recognize 1 colleague(s) for their sustainability efforts on our team feed, in-person, by email, and/or through my organization's recognition platforms.
One Healthcare
Creative Solutions
I will share one idea for making my organization more sustainable on our team's feed.
At Work
2025 Pledge at Work
I pledge to take one action that improves the sustainability of my organization in 2025. It can be an action from this challenge or another action that improves resource stewardship.
At Work
Coffee Cup and Lid Recycling Campaign
I will place all my disposable paper cups and plastic lids only in the recycling bins around the hospital.
One Healthcare
Use A Reusable Mug/Bottle
I will keep 2 disposable cup(s) and/or bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle, cup, or mug.
One Healthcare
Judicious use of disinfectants
I will only use disinfectants where recommended and required by my organization's Infection Prevention and Control department.
At Work
Prevent Recycling Contamination
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will spend 10 minutes learning about which items are recyclable both at my workplace and at home since they may be different, and recycle only those items.
At Work
Use Reusables at Work
I will keep 2 forks, spoons, and/or knives from entering the landfill by using reusable utensils when eating at work.
Health & Well-being
Do Nature Activities
I will engage in nature-based activities alone, or with my friends or family, for 10 minute(s) each day. (This can be anything from going on a walk or hike, to noticing the leaves changing color, to reading a book with nature themes.)
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Seattle Children's Captain 4/22/2025 11:09 AMFun fact: Beavers hate the sound of rushing water. Their ears are so sensitive that they’ll s tart building a dam the moment they hear even the tiniest trickle—which is why they’ re so quick and efficient at construction.-

WOW! I love learning new things - thank you! We should hire some beavers to help with our renovation and construction work at Seattle Children's. :)

Seattle Children's Captain 4/15/2025 9:22 AMhas anybody heard about his reuse company for events, or seen it in any of the concerts you attend? I wonder how that would work for a hospital cafeteria setting. No more recycling, no more compost.... just reuse! We could have silverware as an option in our cafeteria.... and people can decide what is more convenient...

Have not heard of it, but now I'm very interested (time to do a deep dive)! Let's get rid of single use cups!! :)

Seattle Children's Captain 4/07/2025 12:00 PMI took five minutes to learn about recycling aluminum and I want to share it here:
Should aluminum cans be crushed before recycling them?
No, generally, aluminum cans should not be crushed before they are recycled. For areas with single-stream recycling, crushed cans are harder to detect when being sorted at recycling facilities. If you live in an area with multi-stream recycling, crushing cans is not an issue.
Can I recycle aluminum foil?
Yes, aluminum foil can be recycled. Make sure to remove any food residue before recycling.

REFLECTION QUESTIONOne HealthcareConsider how you use disinfectants and antimicrobials throughout your day. Are there opportunities to reduce usage while adhering to infection prevent and control protocols, and maintaining cleanliness standards?
Seattle Children's Captain 4/01/2025 3:25 PMI use the same disposable glove to grab the disinfectant towel to clean our office table, and then I put it away.
