Brenda's actions
At Home
Adjust the Thermostat
I will adjust my thermostat down 2 degrees from usual when I use the heat, and up 2 degrees when I use air conditioning.
At Home
Repair an Item
I will repair an item, such as clothing or an appliance, for myself, a friend, family member, or neighbor.
One Healthcare
Network for Change
I will make 3 new healthcare connections through direct outreach or by joining a green team or industry group to learn from my peers, share best practices, and see if there are opportunities for collaboration.
In Our Communities
Plant Trees
I will plant 4 tree(s) in my community, public parks, or backyard. Check out resources for which tree species are best to plant in your area.
At Home
Shorter Showers
I will save up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers.
One Healthcare
Use A Reusable Mug/Bottle
I will keep 3 disposable cup(s) and/or bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle, cup, or mug.
At Work
Last to Leave? Lights Out, Please!
Lighting makes up approximately 10% of hospitals' energy use on average. I will save energy by turning off unnecessary lights when not in use and when I am the last one to leave a space.
At Work
Recycling Champion
I will recycle 3 items at work and/or at home each day, making sure I review recycling program guidelines and only place accepted items that are clean, empty, and dry in the recycling bin.
One Healthcare
Random Act of Kindness
I will promote a positive environment and uplift others by performing 1 random act(s) of kindness.
One Healthcare
Judicious use of disinfectants
I will only use disinfectants where recommended and required by my organization's Infection Prevention and Control department.
Health & Well-being
Go Get a Check Up
I will make 3 appointments to support my health and well-being (primary care provider, dental, vision, etc.)

Brenda Lee - (PHSW-BHS) 4/10/2024 11:49 AMThe month seems to be flying by as I recognize I am already doing many of the things suggested we can do as individuals to be good stewards of our planet. I am now going to choose a couple that I am not regularly doing to stretch myself and make it a little uncomfortable, working through the discomfort and having it then become routine! -
Brenda Lee - (PHSW-BHS) 4/09/2024 3:06 PMI have placed a bookmark to the EcoChallenge website on my browser to have a reminder in front of me all day. It seems that spring always brings such inner joy to me, coming out of the gloom that we have been in for so long and this challenge is helping me to remember to appreciate my surroundings and to take care of them.-
Laura Hamme 4/09/2024 4:52 PMI agree! The days here are finally getting longer and I feel like I am waking out of hibernation! Being a part of the Eco Challenge is uplifting at a time I need it.

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & Well-being Go Get a Check UpHow do you practice self care? Why is it important?
Brenda Lee - (PHSW-BHS) 4/05/2024 2:42 PMI am learning to listen to my body and stopping when it needs rest. I still over do it at times, but am doing much better. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAt Home Repair an ItemWhat was the last item you repaired? How did you do it and what was the outcome? What are your favorite resources for learning how to repair items yourself?
Brenda Lee - (PHSW-BHS) 4/05/2024 2:41 PMI removed shattered glass from my daughter's garbage disposal saving her a call to the repairman and/or replacing. I used a hand vacuum after allowing it to dry out overnight. I find that google and youtube are great resources on learning new things. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONOne Healthcare Random Act of KindnessHow did performing random acts of kindness make you feel? Were you surprised by any of the responses you received from recipients?
Brenda Lee - (PHSW-BHS) 4/05/2024 2:38 PMI enjoy being kind so this without a doubt brings me joy. It always creates happiness when someone that I've done a random kindness to smiles with genuine gratitude. -
