Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    One Healthcare Sustainable Healthcare
Briefly describe the issue(s) you learned about. How did this information impact you?

    Wendy Long's avatar
    Wendy Long 4/30/2024 8:28 PM
Plant based diets are good for treating various preventable diseases and also good for the environment. They reduce cholesterol, hypertension, BMI and greenhouse gases. It is a win-win.

Thank you for reminding me. It's easy to slip in to negative habits. My challenge is convenience vs. healthy eating. Sushi it is!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
One Healthcare Environmental Footprint of Healthcare
What surprised you most about the healthcare industry's impact on climate and health? What is one action you can take to make a positive impact?

    Wendy Long's avatar
    Wendy Long 4/30/2024 4:44 PM
The climate crisis is not a future problem. Millions of people are dying now. I can switch to renewable energy sources. I can also drive less.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    At Work Greener Purchasing
What green attributes do you look for when making purchasing decisions?

    Wendy Long's avatar
    Wendy Long 4/30/2024 7:58 AM
I look for choices that are locally sourced or have green stickers or ecolabels (like Energy-Star for appliances).
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
One Healthcare Climate Change Impacts on Health
How does climate change create and exacerbate health inequities?

    Wendy Long's avatar
    Wendy Long 4/30/2024 6:52 AM
Air pollution, heat, infectious disease and other results of climate change, caused by fossil fuels and greenhouse gas emissions, exacerbate health inequities. Redline neighborhoods have more air pollution and less greenspace, attributing to poorer air quality and higher heat indices.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
In Our Communities Support Pollution Reduction
What environmental factors affect human health in your region, and how do they affect it?

    Wendy Long's avatar
    Wendy Long 4/29/2024 2:46 PM
I live in an EPA superfund area, so increased risk of cancer and pre-mature death.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION

Reprocessing single use devices reduces the amount of regulated medical waste. What are other ways healthcare facilities can reduce regulated medical waste?

    Wendy Long's avatar

  • REFLECTION QUESTION

I restuffed and patched 3 dog toys. Jonah was happy and I saved $. I usually just search the internet for how-to guides. I also have a friend who seems to be able to repair anything.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

Did procuring local ingredients impact the way you think about food or the meals you decided to prepare? If so, how?

    Wendy Long's avatar
