What did you notice in implementing this challenge? Was it hard to choose other activities over screen time? How did you decide to spend your time?

It can be hard to muster up the energy to choose something other than scrolling or watching, but the reward is immediate. I feel calm, clear headed and more in touch with how I'm feeling physically. This helps me meet my own needs better. I am also very happy with the resulting products (I like to knit, sew, or sketch), learning, or stories (from reading or catching up with my spouse or a friend).

This is a great reflection. Reducing screen time has seemed to help you mentally and physically. In my opinion, there is far more depth to someone's character when they tap into their interests and hobbies as you have described. You should be proud!

Happy Earth Day, Earthlings! Always remember, we only get 1 planet!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    In Our Communities
What are some of the barriers to sharing economies? What is your plan for supporting or creating one in your community? If you focused on purchasing items second-hand, did you have success? What did you learn in the process?

Any new activity has the barrier of uncertainty attached, but sharing with neighbors, friends, family, or the community can be so rewarding and almost risk free! My friends and share a lot of home-made goods with each other. I recently received a cup of home-made laundry detergent to try.

What did you observe while spending time outside -- through sight, sound, smell and/or touch? How did you feel after spending time outdoors?

Took the opportunity to talk a walk through the historic Cavalry cemetery after dinner at a local restaurant in the neighborhood. It was helpful to have an interesting scene to get my partner interested in the walk!

Simply daily journaling helps me clear my mental clutter and stay emotionally grounded, especially when times are stressful. Today I did some therapeutic sketching too, which gets me into a flow state and calms my nervous system. An exercise like this always makes me more productive and grateful afterwards.
