Wendy 's actions
At Home
Needs Vs. Wants
I will adopt a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach and only buy things I need.
At Home
Brush My Teeth Without Water Running
I will save up to 4 gallons (15 L) of water each day by turning it off while brushing my teeth.
At Home
Dishwasher Efficiency
Hand washing dishes can use more energy and hot water than running a full dishwasher. To save water, I will scrape instead of rinsing dishes before loading them into the dishwasher, and only run it when it is full.
At Home
Shorter Showers
I will save up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers.
At Home
Switch to Cold Water
I will switch to washing my clothes in cold water, saving up to 1,600 lbs of CO2 over the course of the next year.
Health & Well-being
More Fruits and Veggies
I will eat a heart healthy diet by adding 3 cup(s) of fruits and vegetables each day to achieve at least 4 cups per day.
Health & Well-being
Reduce Refined Sugar
I will adopt a diet free of refined sugars, which eliminates sweetened beverages, candy, and processed foods.
At Work
Turn It Off
I will turn my computer monitor(s) off at my work station when not in use to save energy (I will follow my organization's IT instructions for keeping on, turning off, or restarting computers).
At Work
Stay Connected
I will schedule coffee breaks, lunches, and/or check-in meetings with 1 coworkers to promote connectivity in my workplace.
In Our Communities
Buy From a Farmers Market
I will purchase produce and/or meat from a local farmers market or food co-op to make 4 locally-sourced meals.
Health & Well-being
Less Screen Time
I will replace 60 minute(s) of screen time per day with other activities, and limit my social media use to once per day.
Health & Well-being
Gratitude
I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for every day.
Health & Well-being
Do Nature Activities
I will engage in nature-based activities alone, or with my friends or family, for 20 minute(s) each day. (This can be anything from going on a walk or hike, to noticing the leaves changing color, to reading a book with nature themes.)

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & Well-beingWhat did you observe while spending time outside -- through sight, sound, smell and/or touch? How did you feel after spending time outdoors?
Wendy McClenahan 4/24/2025 5:43 AMI took the day off yesterday and enjoyed the entire day outside. I love to garden. The day started with my coffee on my garden bench with the sun shining on me. The day was spent gardening, playing and walking my dogs, and enjoying the beautiful sunshine. I slept great! -
Wendy McClenahan 4/24/2025 5:38 AMI keep forgetting to check in! The one task that I am making a habit is turning off my monitors at the end of the day! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAt WorkWas this action easy to add to your daily routine? Why or why not?
Wendy McClenahan 4/03/2025 5:55 AMBecause I work remotely and my office at home is private, I often forget to turn off my monitors. I have set a reminder, so I don't forget!-
