Parvathi's actions
In Our Communities
Use Reusable Bags
I will refuse 1 of single-use paper or plastic bags each day by bringing my own reusable bags or carrying purchased goods another way.
In Our Communities
Drive Less
I will cut my car trip mileage by only taking necessary trips, or walking and biking instead.
In Our Communities
Support Pollution Reduction
I will spend at least 20 minutes learning about water and air quality issues in my area, how they are impacting human and environmental health, and how I can help.
Health & Well-being
More Fruits and Veggies
I will eat a heart healthy diet by adding 2 cup(s) of fruits and vegetables each day to achieve at least 4 cups per day.
One Healthcare
Use A Reusable Mug/Bottle
I will keep 4 disposable cup(s) and/or bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle, cup, or mug.
At Work
Work From Home
I will work from home 4 day(s) to avoid my commute's carbon output.
One Healthcare
Printing Papers at work
As much as Possible, do not print papers at home/work. If you must, print them double sided.
At Work
Last to Leave? Lights Out, Please!
Lighting makes up approximately 10% of hospitals' energy use on average. I will save energy by turning off unnecessary lights when not in use and when I am the last one to leave a space.
Health & Well-being
Go Get a Check Up
I will make 3 appointments to support my health and well-being (primary care provider, dental, vision, etc.)
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Parvathi Raja 4/19/2024 2:38 PMIn order to save time, energy, water etc. I sort out laundry based on how the washing/drying cycle should be and wash the loads only when full to avoid wastage. I have an XL machine. I don't go with white, blacks and colors and this has worked for me very well in terms of achieving the cleanliness I need by keeping the durability and appearance. -
Parvathi Raja 4/18/2024 11:04 AMWe use energy efficient appliances throughout our home and run them on eco mode to reduce energy use or wastage. -
Parvathi Raja 4/16/2024 9:24 AMWe try to make coffee/tea and store them in a thermos flask so that we need not reheat them every time especially during the winter months. -
Parvathi Raja 4/15/2024 10:07 AMIts birthday month in the family, we reuse the gift bags given to us and buy reusable cloth bags as goodie bags. It does take some effort and closet space, but it's worth it. -
Parvathi Raja 4/12/2024 10:38 AMThe amount of paper that a household with young kids uses is crazy and unavoidable most of the times. We use one sided print outs for kids' artwork. We make the effort to convince kids to reduce paper use and hopefully will make them responsible, sustainable citizens in the future.-
Barbara Hamilton 4/12/2024 9:30 PMIt’s a tricky calculation, right?! You want to encourage creativity and have paper for art and craft projects. Just do it. But of course at least consider when and how you use paper, and use other natural bits when you can or instead. We don’t want our kids only creating digital artwork. They need to connect with and be in nature. Like Circles in the Sand in Oregon.

Parvathi Raja 4/11/2024 10:44 AMI have been making donating lightly used clothes in good shape to goodwill or known people and recycling the others at H&M. H &M make cloth bags out of recycled clothing. You get a 15% off coupon if you recycle your clothing at H&M as added bonus. Make impacts to the society one step at a time or one thing a day. -
Parvathi Raja 4/10/2024 10:06 AMWe have been using the 3R's (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) for the past 10-15 years as a basic principle for sustainable well-being. -
Parvathi Raja 4/10/2024 10:04 AMAs a family, we have been storing boiled water in flasks for the past 10-15 years to avoid reheating water every time we need. -
Parvathi Raja 4/07/2024 9:00 PMReusing grocery store bag for garbage, compost, trash and recycle helps in reducing bag use. -
