Recycling Champion

I will recycle 10 items at work and/or at home each day, making sure I review recycling program guidelines and only place accepted items that are clean, empty, and dry in the recycling bin.

I've planted 1 tree last year but that is sure to change this year. I'm slowly going to gain the shade in my huge yard.

My goal is to plant at least one a year! I just put it in the budget. When I think about how much I spend every year on mulch, garden supplies, lawn mower gas (which I hope to transition this year to electric).

And when i run out of space in my yard (1/4 acre), I will ask my neighbors if they want one. Because more canopy helps everyone's health and biodiversity in our neighborhoods

Did procuring local ingredients impact the way you think about food or the meals you decided to prepare? If so, how?

When crop are in season you bet, I'm at the farmer's market. With the price at the grocery store the farmers market always has what I need in stock.

I am only 43 but I can remember a time when it was special to get out of season produce. I think dried fruit and responsibly canned/preserved fruits and veggies can help us reduce the overall impact of shipping produce from all around the world.

This is a big one my family does. I've always donated them to the schools or daycare since they always seem to be in need.

I love being outdoors. I've got tons of trees and branches that house bunches of birds from neighborhood birds to owls, ravens/crows, hawks, and turkey vultures. I have more yard cleaning to do but taking it day by day is so peaceful.

Do to all the high winds I was able to fill an entire trash bag filled with what blew into my yard as its quite large. My kiddos had a blast helping me with this task as it was fun for the family.

I've always loved Earth Day and supporting it in any way since I was a child. I grew up in a very rural area and I just love having a reason to be outside and do as mother nature intended. I do hope we as a team, since this is our first year, make a big splash and do the basics!

    1. Reuse cups
    2. Turning off lights
    3. Recycle all that we can
    4. Plant some trees or flowers
