I also donate Plasma. That is used to make many different products that can save lives.

Crystal's actions
One Healthcare
Use A Reusable Mug/Bottle
I will keep 5 disposable cup(s) and/or bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle, cup, or mug.
At Home
Brush My Teeth Without Water Running
I will save up to 4 gallons (15 L) of water each day by turning it off while brushing my teeth.
In Our Communities
Donate Items
I will help others in need and prevent useful items from going to landfill by donating 5 items.
Health & Well-being
Go Get a Check Up
I will make 5 appointments to support my health and well-being (primary care provider, dental, vision, etc.)
At Home
Learn the Truth about Expiration Dates
I will spend at least 25 minutes learning how to differentiate between sell by, use by, and best by dates.
At Work
Report a Leak
I will prevent water from being wasted by reporting one or more leaky faucets, toilets, or other water leaks to my organization's facilities team for repair.
At Work
Last to Leave? Lights Out, Please!
Lighting makes up approximately 10% of hospitals' energy use on average. I will save energy by turning off unnecessary lights when not in use and when I am the last one to leave a space.
At Work
Use Reusables at Work
I will keep 3 forks, spoons, and/or knives from entering the landfill by using reusable utensils when eating at work.
One Healthcare
Random Act of Kindness
I will promote a positive environment and uplift others by performing 3 random act(s) of kindness.
One Healthcare
Donate Blood
I will donate blood in my community to make sure there are adequate supplies for routine medical services and emergencies.
One Healthcare
Judicious use of disinfectants
I will only use disinfectants where recommended and required by my organization's Infection Prevention and Control department.
One Healthcare
Sustainable Healthcare
I will attend or watch a recording of a webinar 25 minutes long covering one or more healthcare sustainability issues.

REFLECTION QUESTIONOne Healthcare Donate BloodWhy do you donate blood?
Crystal Tyree 4/25/2024 9:26 AMI donate blood to help others that may be in need of it. There was a time when I almost needed a blood transfusion. Had I needed it, those that have donated would have saved my life.
I also donate Plasma. That is used to make many different products that can save lives. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONOne Healthcare Judicious use of disinfectantsConsider how you use disinfectants and antimicrobials throughout your day. Are there opportunities to reduce usage while adhering to infection prevent and control protocols, and maintaining cleanliness standards?
Crystal Tyree 4/23/2024 6:57 AMPicking a time when you can clean all surfaces at the same time would help reduce the usage of products. Preferably after the workday is complete. So, all the rooms are empty and you can just go down the line and clean! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAt Work Use Reusables at WorkWhile one's plastic cutlery is a seemingly very small part of someone's "plastic impact", why do you think it's important for us to address this opportunity to reduce?
Crystal Tyree 4/23/2024 6:02 AMEven though it seems like a small impact using a "few" plastic cutlery, it will add up when multiple people are doing it.-
Crystal Tyree 4/23/2024 8:11 AMI agree!
I actually reuse my cutlery! I wash them and put them in a zip lock baggie for future use. I will need to eventually throw them away, but the amount of uses that I am able to get out of one box saves the numerous boxes that I would have to purchase for social gatherings if I just threw them away each time! -
Melissa Ondricek 4/23/2024 6:17 AMAgree! All plastic cutlery should be banned and IF disposable are provided they should be required to be plant based and compostable. Compostable Cutlery (greenpaperproducts.com)

REFLECTION QUESTIONOne Healthcare Random Act of KindnessHow did performing random acts of kindness make you feel? Were you surprised by any of the responses you received from recipients?
Crystal Tyree 4/05/2024 10:42 AMI have always been one to try to make others feel better. Even if I am having an "off day"... I still try to brighten another persons day. Doing that most the time boosts my own mood. So, it is a 2 for one deal! I have had some of the people that I did a random act of kindness make me feel insulted. For example: An older woman dropped her purse and I was standing behind her in line at the store. I reached down and held it out to her immediately. She grabbed it and gave me a look like I was going to take it! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAt Work Last to Leave? Lights Out, Please! How could you encourage your coworkers to develop the habit of turning lights off?
Crystal Tyree 4/05/2024 10:38 AMWe have all started to remind each other to turn off the lights and close the blinds to exam rooms when we are done with them for the day. We've also started to leave the breakroom light off if it is a nice day and the sun is giving off the natural light that we need. We also have been turning off the breakroom light when there isn't anyone using it. -
Crystal Tyree 4/02/2024 10:17 AMThis is my 3rd challenge that I have done since I started at the clinic. I really enjoy and look forward to doing these :) I learn new things to do that helps out in multiple ways within the community. I also get pointers on how to improve the ways that I am already implementing to make an impact. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAt Home Brush My Teeth Without Water RunningDo you live in an area that is water secure or with water scarcity? What other actions do you take to use water more efficiently?
Crystal Tyree 4/02/2024 10:15 AMThe area that I live in has a secure water source.
I use a Water system where I go and fill the water jugs with spring water. It helps to reduce the waste from plastic bottles. I also use refillable water jugs during my day to cut down on waste from bottles and cups.
