  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    In Our Communities Plant Trees
How is planting trees good for your mental, physical, and spiritual health?

    Kimberly Van Winkle's avatar
Kimberly Van Winkle 4/21/2024 10:21 PM
Planting trees is hope for the future: cleaner air, a shady spot, a reminder of a memory. It's also a good workout
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    One Healthcare Medical Device Reprocessing
Reprocessing single use devices reduces the amount of regulated medical waste. What are other ways healthcare facilities can reduce regulated medical waste?

    Kimberly Van Winkle's avatar
Kimberly Van Winkle 4/21/2024 10:19 PM
Reducing regulated medical waste: only put items that are bloody/possibly infectious in the red bags/boxes. These items have to be disinfected before disposal so it is wasteful to put inappropriate items on these bags/boxes.
I'm reading about the topic I found a group/website called practice green health.org
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
At Home Learn the Truth about Expiration Dates
What did you learn about expiration dates? How do you reduce food waste at home? What are some additional ways you can reduce food waste?

    Kimberly Van Winkle's avatar
Kimberly Van Winkle 4/06/2024 1:22 PM
Found a good article about use-by and sell-by dates. It aligns with what I tend to do and gives some good tips on how to store food for maximal use time. Much of these dates relate to quality but not really with the safety of the food item.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    At Work Reduce Animal Products
How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people? What is your favorite meatless dish or recipe?

    Kimberly Van Winkle's avatar
Kimberly Van Winkle 4/06/2024 1:14 PM
We made pancakes as a family this morning
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
At Work Use Reusables at Work
While one's plastic cutlery is a seemingly very small part of someone's "plastic impact", why do you think it's important for us to address this opportunity to reduce?

    Kimberly Van Winkle's avatar
Kimberly Van Winkle 4/05/2024 5:57 PM
I've been making sure that I pack silverware along with my lunch. I also keep a "picnic kit" in my car

I want to do my part to make the world a better place for my family. I like these types of challenges to motivate and inspire change
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    At Home Compost Food Waste
New to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? How will you use your compost once it is ready?

    Kimberly Van Winkle's avatar
Kimberly Van Winkle 4/01/2024 9:20 PM
I started a compost bin in my yard and looking forward to using the results in my garden
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
At Home Practice the 5 r's
Which of the 5 R's was easiest for you? Which was the most difficult? How did practicing the 5 R's help you reduce more waste than recycling alone?

    Kimberly Van Winkle's avatar
Kimberly Van Winkle 4/01/2024 9:18 PM
Talked with my sons about needs vs wants to 'reduce'; it was recycling day so we filled the bin instead of the garbage; we reused bags to not be single use.
