My sister-in-law is on hospice and I am grateful that I can go spend my weekends with her, my brother and my niece. We treasure each day that we still have her with us, making memories.

What a powerful example. Your sharing this reminds me of what is actually, truly important. Thank you for sharing. Peace to you and yours, may you savor every moment you have together.

What did you observe while spending time outside -- through sight, sound, smell and/or touch? How did you feel after spending time outdoors?

I noticed a goose. She (I guess it was a she I don't know.) was sitting by herself in the grass by the sidewalk. Since I seldom see a singular goose, it caught my attention. Then 2 geese flew by honking and she jumped up and started honking back at them. They kept on flying and her honking changed, then stopped. She started walking and I did too. The next time I came around, there was another goose walking with her.

I was walking around my office building yesterday and simply could not believe all the litter I saw (and picked up). I was dumbfounded because I just don't remember seeing all of that the day before. I'm sure it was there because some of it was disintegrating to a great degree. It's amazing what our eyes and mind ignore until we are forced to look at it!

I notice this outside our building, and I think you are right that sometimes we just walk past until we really look around.

Sometimes my patients say, "I'm obviously upset to have this diagnosis. But I'd rather know than not know. Because now that I know, I can make a plan to tackle this."

We can't tackle an issue we don't know is there. So thank you for bringing this to our awareness. It makes me wonder how we can help IU Health as a system gain awareness of campus litter and effectively help.

Last thing - I actually have some Keep Indianapolis Beautiful trash pickup supplies in my office! Buckets, picker-upper tongs, bags, and gloves. Maybe we could organize a couple pickups with fellow Green Teamers or colleagues. If there's something I can do to help, let me know!

What did you learn about expiration dates? How do you reduce food waste at home? What are some additional ways you can reduce food waste?

I learned that all those dates on the packages mean different things. I then began to wonder how my organization chooses which date it mandates for us to follow with the food stuff we use with our clients.

Members of my church have started a "Green Team" at our church and I have learned that we can change the world when each one of us makes one small change at time! I am hoping that by joining the iu health green team I will learn a few more "one small change" items or actions I can take!

Mary this is amazing. As a chaplain I couldn't agree more that the church has massive potential to promote healthy people in all aspects -- physically, mentally, spiritually, and environmentally. Have an amazing Earth Month.

It was easy because I have been doing this on Fridays anyway. It's not difficult to add in the other days!
