  • REFLECTION QUESTION
One Healthcare Environmental Footprint of Healthcare
What surprised you most about the healthcare industry's impact on climate and health? What is one action you can take to make a positive impact?

The environmental impact of the healthcare industry can paradoxically affect health by contributing to air and water pollution, climate change, and resource depletion. These environmental changes can lead to respiratory problems, infectious diseases, and other health issues.
As individuals, I can help reduce the healthcare industry’s environmental footprint by: Supporting Telemedicine: Utilizing telemedicine services when appropriate to reduce transportation emissions. By taking this step I contributed to a more sustainable healthcare system that protects both our health and the environment.

I work at nearby Carle Foundation Hospital and this appears to be the only game in town, at present. I am a part time RN working medical surgical floors at Proctor, Methodist and Pekin facilities. I have extensive background in environmental activities including former activity with the OSF SFMC Green team 1991 - 2020.
At Carle we are beginning the process of establishing outdoor pollinator gardens throughout the network.
Glad to help wherever and whenever i can
