We receive flyer information from our local utility on how to make big and small changes that we plan on implementing over time.

    At Home Choose LED Bulbs
Switching out your lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! What other actions do you take to be more energy efficient at home?

I always feel good about using efficient bulbs but also will replace our major appliances over. We are even choosing a more efficient roofing material to help with heating and cooling stability with in the home.

I vacillate about purchasing new appliances as the old ones will go in the landfill, right? If appliances are still working, even if they are less efficient, I don't like to get rid of them for new ones. For example, our dishwasher is the original from our house so it is 24 years old. However, it still works. Should I get a new dishwasher that would be more energy and water efficient but this one would go to the landfill and get a new one that may last 15 years?

I have a really hard time throwing things out that are still useful. I am one to hang on to those items and just replace as necessary with items that area more efficient. My last oven I actually just replaced the element on it and kept using it until the whole thing went out. I feel so much better about spending 30 and keeping something that still works and repair within reason.

I love strolling through a market picking up fresh fruits and vegetables and a big bouquet of flowers! Having fresh flowers in the home is so uplifting!

I agree! I have also learned to enjoy how flavorful fruits and vegetables are when they are in peak season.

It is going well so far. I wish I had more time to spend learning about how we can have impact. I have thought of some ideas I hope to share with my environmentally conscious colleagues and friends.

I am trying to drink more and more water. I find that most of the time I am just not thirsty so I do not force it. I do take in a lot of liquid through smoothies and tea.

I like using a quart size glass mason jar and aim to drink at least two of those per day of just water. As we get older, our thirst response lessons so it is easier to become dehydrated. Your kidneys love just plain ol' water to help flush them out.

I love my Zojirushi travel mug that I use just for coffee. Keeps it hot all day long.
