It's been interesting to see what I can change that makes an impact overall!

I have done this for years. It really has saved money too.

I really like to donate unused clothing that my family no longer needs to local clothing closets within the community so that they don't go to the landfill.

At Home Brush My Teeth Without Water Running
Do you live in an area that is water secure or with water scarcity? What other actions do you take to use water more efficiently?

No, I don't have water scarcity. I use appliances that are made to use less water, like the dishwasher and washer. I could also collect rainwater to water plants in the summer.

Great job! We are lucky here to not have drought concerns, but I know that is definitely an issue in some places. Rainwater is a great option though for water conservation!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
At Home Practice the 5 r's
Which of the 5 R's was easiest for you? Which was the most difficult? How did practicing the 5 R's help you reduce more waste than recycling alone?

Reusing is hard sometimes, because you have to carry it with you all day. Like my water jug around with me, but it is cheaper and better for the environment.

I saved and reuse the water after I clean the vegetables and fruits from my kitchen sink to water my garden and used the waste from the kitchen to make compost and fertilizer.

It is going great! I prefer bringing my own utensils for my breakfast and lunch, because I find it hard using the flimsy plastic ware. I save money bringing my own mug at home by making tea at school. I have been doing all my laundry in cold. I used to use hot for sheets and towels, but I read that the dryer kills a lot of germs and bacteria.

I am trying the daily challenge of turning off all the lights when I leave -- man oh man! I didn't realize how many lights I was leaving on in the basement here at work each day! I always turn my office light off when I leave but I never did any of the other lights -- I went around and turned them all off before I left yesterday and there were a lot! So much energy (and money) spent. I am definitely going to try to keep this one up in the future.
