RUSH University Medical Center Feed

BACK TO TEAM PAGE

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

I chose not to include using a reusable water bottle in my challenge since I already do every day. I realized however that I began using a reusable mug for my coffee every day at work instead of the 1-2 paper cups per day that was my norm. Thanks in part to a co-worker who got me the mug as a gift!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
In Our Communities Volunteer in My Community
How did volunteering in your community make you feel? What is one thing you can do to help your community become more sustainable?

Giving back has been something my parents have instilled in me, and gratefully has been something my school has implemented this practice as well. A sense of joy and gratitude of giving of myself in ways that can assist anywhere from 1-100 individuals/animals/trees - it feels amazing. One thing to do is to transfer a little kindness to someone else - that is priceless, in my opinion.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    One Healthcare Medical Device Reprocessing
Reprocessing single use devices reduces the amount of regulated medical waste. What are other ways healthcare facilities can reduce regulated medical waste?

Encourage as often as possible, perhaps in huddles for certain units to recycle certain devices that are able to be "reprocessed." This trickles down from providers to all staff, and non-clinical staff. A little goes a long way, and if we are mindful, it can save possibly thousands (money-wise) for future generations.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
In Our Communities Buy From a Farmers Market
Did procuring local ingredients impact the way you think about food or the meals you decided to prepare? If so, how?

As one who has had the opportunity to travel to countries that may not have a lot: food-wise; or perhaps have smaller accommodations for their food, it allows me to be mindful. My family of 2 (+2 dogs) with two people that work opposite schedules, it is important to sustain the products that are bought locally so those that grow them can continue to provide. This has always been important for me; thus shopping every couple days, keeps food from being wasted, and more inclined on purchasing as needed and diversifying our diet.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
In Our Communities Support Pollution Reduction
What environmental factors affect human health in your region, and how do they affect it?

Noise pollution. This is something that sometimes cannot be contained, unless there are certain times of the day in which: construction is done, allowing people that work 9-5PM - to perhaps get a full night's rest

A day at a time, I am enjoying giving back to what is freely given to me
