    Gardening Tip!
Consider creeping thyme for pathway groundcover or to replace grass areas due to its low-growing, aromatic foliage and ability to tolerate light foot traffic. It's a low-maintenance option that can soften the look of hardscaping by filling gaps between pavers and stones. Here's why creeping thyme is well-suited for pathways:
    • Low-growing and dense: It forms a dense mat of tiny leaves, creating a soft, ground-hugging appearance.
    • Fragrant: The leaves release a pleasant, herbal scent when stepped on.
    • Foot traffic tolerance: It can handle light foot traffic, making it suitable for walkways.
    • Low-maintenance: It requires minimal care, including weeding and occasional pruning.
    • Drought-tolerant: It thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, making it a good option for dry climates.
    • Aesthetic appeal: Its compact size and fragrant foliage add visual interest to hardscaped areas like pathways.
    • Versatile: It can be used in various garden settings, including between pavers, along edges, or as a groundcover.

I realized how aware I am of my eco challenge goals and am putting them into practice. Turns out I'm not very good at visiting the site to Check-In..haha

I noticed my elderly neighbor rarely put out their recycle bin so I laminated a the Waste Management flyer and gave it to them. We talked through what should and should not go in the recycle bin. They were very grateful and I'm looking forward to seeing their recycle bin out more regularly now.

What was the last item you repaired? How did you do it and what was the outcome? What are your favorite resources for learning how to repair items yourself?

I decided to explore the crafting activity of working with paracord and have rebuilt/repaired a leash for my dog! I made my own strap with 2 attaching clasps so I can attach one end to my dog and the other to myself/pole/loop around to secure my dog!

Fun fact: Beavers hate the sound of rushing water. Their ears are so sensitive that they’ll s tart building a dam the moment they hear even the tiniest trickle—which is why they’ re so quick and efficient at construction.

WOW! I love learning new things - thank you! We should hire some beavers to help with our renovation and construction work at Seattle Children's. :)

When adding signage to renovation and construction sites, make them generic and laminate so you can reuse on different projects.

Happy Earth Day! One goal I had for this Earth Month/Ecochallenge was to reduce my paper towel usage. When working from home I have been able to switch to a cloth napkin for meals and use dish towels instead of paper towels and it has made me aware of how little thought I was giving to using multiple bleached paper towels each day and how easily that can be avoided with multi-use washable towels!

I connect with nature by watching and talking to the birds that are around my property. This little guy thought it might be a good idea to build his nest on my front door. Movement of the door frightened him away.

That's so delightful!! Use the back door from now on, I guess?

My daughter insisted we move it to the other door 2-feet away that isn't opened multiple times a day. Little bird never came back. It's not a real steady place to raise babies anyway. It was fun to see him sitting there though.

What is one way you would like to improve your communication skills? Why is constructive communication important at work and at home?

Avoid showing my disapproval when my kids are telling me about what they are doing that I am not fond of... they are adults and must be responsible for their own lives.
Good communication helps lead to more peaceful conversation and fewer hard feelings after the fact.

Very well said! I need to focus on this as sometimes I don’t agree with my daughter’s choices and beliefs.
