Happy Friday! I live in NWI and commute about 45 minutes to South Chicago everyday. This weekend my hometown is hosting a "Park Clean Up" from 10am-12pm that I have volunteered to attend! I'm grateful to be able to help my community in any ways I can!

    Happy Earth Day, Team!
I will commit to take some time today to enjoy the outdoors and everything this Earth has to offer while keeping my eyes peeled for any opportunity to pick up litter. Let us finish strong!
Below is a link to the gardens located at the Hyde Campus. I, personally, will be visiting Bartlett gardens during my lunch. :)

I went to a new store today and used my reuseable tote bad instead of buying a plastic bag.

I parked 3 blocks away from the hospital and walked almost 10 minutes instead of parking closer. I also did not sit with my car on or let it idle once I parked.

That’s awesome! I didn’t think of letting my car idle while parked. I think I do that a lot. That’s something I will also work on. Thank you!

    In Our Communities
How did volunteering in your community make you feel? What is one thing you can do to help your community become more sustainable?

My daughter and I participated in Garden Club to kick off the month and we have our second meeting today! It's an opportunity for her to be hands on with some fruits and veggies served in her cafeteria. We both had a blast and I love that I can help the school and community, but am not actually responsible to fully keep the garden going! hahah! (I have somewhat of a black thumb if left to my own devices.) During our initial planting session, we talked about different opportunities the garden will provide. Other kiddos can help harvest the crops. If there is a high yield, the entrepreneur club can sell the produce at our Friday Markets. I can't wait to go back today!

    At Home
What other steps can you take each day to heat and cool your home more efficiently?

We have an EcoBee thermostat in our home and use schedules to set temperatures for when we're home / away / sleeping. Hopefully, the weather will start to feel more spring-like and we can have the windows open! In the wintertime, we tend to keep the house a little chillier than most (68), use blankets, and wear fuzzy slippers to keep extra cozy!

Last week I saved all of my cardboard boxes as well as all any empty bottles I had and brought them to my parents' house and recycled it all in their recycling can!

My tip to departmental recycling is having a scratch paper bin for your staff to use instead of using fresh printer paper. Then putting all paper in the shredder bin since they recycle that. :)
