A leak that drips 10 drops a minute equals a gallon a day. A faster drip can be up to 330 gallons a month!

I didn't have the schedule to attend an Earth day event like I did last year so I am planning to clean up my garden and work on my compost bin.

At work I notice in the breakroom and stat labs and restrooms that the faucets drip. I turn off the drip each time I see that. My dad worked at the water company in Oakland for 30 years and we learned all about how many gallons are wasted by little drips.

You’re right, James. It really adds up! How many gallons are wasted by the little drips?

When I am on the floor in the hospital or in a room, if I can consolidate masks into one box or gloves, then I fold up the empty boxes and bring them down to the bag in my area. Also, time permitting, I will fish out cans or bottles from the nurses station and drop them in the recycle bin in the pantry on that floor. I am a little embarrassed to do that with a bunch of nurses and maybe doctors there but I tell myself, They should be embarrassed to throw away a valuable resource. Afterall, each can recycled saves 4 hours of electricity. I also heard that we throw away enough aluminum to rebuild our air fleet.

Recycling cuts carbon dioxide emissions by 700 million tonnes a year Recycling is good for the climate. But it's not a simple equation – some recycling processes produce greenhouse gases of their own. Still, recycling also reduces the need to use new natural resources, including the fossil fuels that are used to make most plastics.
