Kelsey's actions
At Work
2025 Pledge at Work
I pledge to take one action that improves the sustainability of my organization in 2025. It can be an action from this challenge or another action that improves resource stewardship.
At Home
Spring Cleaning
I will use this challenge to focus on sustainably decluttering baby items from our home; toys, clothes, etc - either recycling or donating.
Health & Well-being
Gratitude
I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for every day.
At Work
Report a Leak
I will prevent water from being wasted by reporting one or more leaky faucets, toilets, or other water leaks to my organization's facilities team for repair.
Health & Well-being
Exercise Daily
Exercise is a great stress blaster! I will exercise for 20 minute(s) each day.
At Home
Adjust the Thermostat
I will adjust my thermostat down 2 degrees from usual when I use the heat, and up 2 degrees when I use air conditioning.
At Work
Last to Leave? Lights Out, Please!
Lighting makes up approximately 10% of hospitals' energy use on average. I will save energy by turning off unnecessary lights when not in use and when I am the last one to leave a space.
One Healthcare
Donate Blood
I will donate blood in my community to make sure there are adequate supplies for routine medical services and emergencies.
One Healthcare
One Healthcare Ecochallenge Survey
Your voice matters! Help us improve the One Healthcare Ecochallenge by taking our survey, available starting April 23rd.
In Our Communities
Volunteer in My Community
I will volunteer 4 hour(s) in my community during the challenge.

REFLECTION QUESTIONIn Our CommunitiesHow did volunteering in your community make you feel? What is one thing you can do to help your community become more sustainable?
Kelsey Johnson 4/15/2025 7:37 AMMy daughter and I participated in Garden Club to kick off the month and we have our second meeting today! It's an opportunity for her to be hands on with some fruits and veggies served in her cafeteria. We both had a blast and I love that I can help the school and community, but am not actually responsible to fully keep the garden going! hahah! (I have somewhat of a black thumb if left to my own devices.) During our initial planting session, we talked about different opportunities the garden will provide. Other kiddos can help harvest the crops. If there is a high yield, the entrepreneur club can sell the produce at our Friday Markets. I can't wait to go back today! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAt HomeWhat other steps can you take each day to heat and cool your home more efficiently?
Kelsey Johnson 4/15/2025 7:33 AM- Exercise Lover 🤸
We have an EcoBee thermostat in our home and use schedules to set temperatures for when we're home / away / sleeping. Hopefully, the weather will start to feel more spring-like and we can have the windows open! In the wintertime, we tend to keep the house a little chillier than most (68), use blankets, and wear fuzzy slippers to keep extra cozy! -

My Daughter, Rylee, got to bring her cheerleading uniform home from practice last night. The joy in her eyes when she looked in the mirror after trying it on is something I hope to never forget. Cross your fingers for her (and my husband and I)! She has her first competition this weekend! I'm grateful that we are able to provide this experience for her! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & Well-beingHow can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?
Kelsey Johnson 4/08/2025 4:46 AM- Exercise Lover 🤸
My tracking will likely occur retroactively. Yesterday, it was rather chilly outside. I try to go on a lunchtime walk outside every day. I pivoted on Monday and meandered around the parking garage during lunch, still racking up some movement minutes and getting fresh air, but more sheltered from the elements!-

I’ve been indoors walking too. Hopefully we get some warmer weather coming up! But it’s great you won’t let the weather stop you and you’re moving during lunch!

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & Well-beingWhat is one thing that you are grateful for today? How does practicing gratitude make you feel?
Kelsey Johnson 4/08/2025 4:43 AM- Exercise Lover 🤸
Today I am grateful for my alarm clock. It was very tough peeling myself out of bed yesterday morning after a busy weekend of Pop Warner Football, household chores, and meal prepping. I am also grateful for easy comfort meals. I planned to make hamburger helper stroganoff last night for dinner and knowing it was super easy to throw together, I was able to take a little afternoon cat nap with my daughter once we all got home from work and school.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONAt WorkWhat are some ways water is used in your work area? How can you and your colleagues be more efficient with water use?
Kelsey Johnson 4/07/2025 11:42 AM- Exercise Lover 🤸
We've had a leaky faucet in our bathroom for some time, but it was a problem low on the totem pole. This challenge was a great reminder to take the couple of minutes out of my day to make sure it's taken care of. Our biggest use of water in the Surgical Pathology Lab is washing dishes. We can certainly be more cognizant and not run water while washing dishes. Unfortunately, occasionally our work requires us to rinse specimens, so we tend to use quite a bit. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONOne HealthcareWhy do you donate blood?
Kelsey Johnson 4/07/2025 11:38 AM- Exercise Lover 🤸
I donate blood because it's a quick and easy way to make a life saving impact for the patients of our institution. The perks of donating here are also quite the cherry on top; parking passes, lunch vouchers, movie tickets. Makes it hard to say no! I am scheduled to donate in the Middle of May and plan to donate all year long! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAt WorkHow could you encourage your coworkers to develop the habit of turning lights off?
Kelsey Johnson 4/07/2025 8:03 AM- Exercise Lover 🤸
I will track this activity a little differently. I work 6am-2:30pm. Instead of dimming the lights when I leave for the day, I will dim them when I arrive until about 8am. I'm one of only a couple people in my area and none of us would mind some dimmer lights that early in the morning! haha!-
Paul Goodenough 4/07/2025 10:41 AMabsolutely! Love walking into a low-stimulus environment in the AM. There's enough chaos in healthcare
