What environmental factors affect human health in your region, and how do they affect it?

While Cleveland has been improving in some air quality measures, it still ranked as the 4th most difficult city to live in with asthma out of 100 cities in the Allergy and Asthma Foundation of America's 2023 Asthma Capitals Report. The rating is based on asthma prevalence, emergency department visits for asthma, and deaths due to asthma. Air quality and allergens affect human health in our region, and we are seeing more intense and longer allergy seasons as our climate becomes warmer.

In Florida, we are also seeing more intense and longer allergy seasons as the climate changes.

How do you practice self care? Why is it important?

I practice self care by meditating before work, eating healthy, spending time walking in nature, and pursuing hobbies. Medical appointments are also a very important part of this. I was really glad that I finally had an appointment with my dentist because I had something I needed to get checked and was procrastinating on. I lost a college classmate to mouth cancer and know how important it is to be proactive, so I was feeling guilty about taking so long. Not only was it a relief to have an expert take a look, but it also reduced my stress to not have the issue looming in the back of my mind!

Custom Action--Buy Used: We'll be getting these refinished modern chairs for our living room today! My husband and I moved into our first home in 2021 and had a very difficult time finding furniture that we liked and felt was good quality. We lucked out and found out about Main Street Modern in Canton, Ohio. It's a 3-story warehouse that purchases furniture primarily from the 50s-80s for resale, and includes an in-house reupholstry and refinishing shop. We've been giving another life to a lot of fun furniture pieces over the past year.
We were amused to find out that these chairs previously had red/orange fabric and the wood had been painted over white. They had also been at their shop for some time, so we'd probably walked by them numerous times and had never considered them before they were refinished. The shop staff were surprised to find such beautiful wood underneath the white paint, and we were lucky that they picked a fabric to refinish the chairs in that happens to match our living room!

    • Love the vibe of the chairs!

Definitely! They are also locally owned and operated, and the owner, Adam, is a wonderful person. They are open Saturdays and by appointment. My husband and I typically make a day of it by going there in the early afternoon and then getting an early dinner somewhere on the way home.

Thank you for sharing the name of the store - I'll have to check them out. Sounds like it's worth the drive down from Cleveland.
