Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • Let’s carry our efforts past this challenge and stay committed to daily actions that truly make a difference. Cheers to all that participate, we did it!

  • Staying at a resort has opened my eyes to the vast amount of food waste. What are some ways resorts can continue to operate successfully, without mass food waste?

If there are "all you can eat" options, make sure there is a penalty/fee for any excessive food left on your plate that you took but didn't eat. One of our favorite sushi places does that for their AYCE lunches. If you order it and don't eat it, it's extra.

  • Picked up trash on the beach tonight 😃

There are certain portions of highway 13 & 169 that have a lot of trash along the side. I always feel the urge to pull over and pick it up. It would be more realistic if I wasn't trying to get to work and if I had gloves/trash bags in my car already.

we did a beach sweep 2 sat ago. what a great experience but also a sad reality of how things are as we found so many used needles and empty alcohol bottles. There were also so many tampon applicators I assumed washed up on the beaches was sad to see so much trash. good job on going out and picking up trash every bit helps
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    At Work Work From Home
What have you found to be the biggest pros and cons of working from home?

The times I’ve worked from home, I seem to get more done from a paper work standpoint. Also, I get to save on the commute & save time! Cons are less meaningful interactions with coworkers.

I agree with the paperwork side of things. I've also found it helps to be able to work from home when I'm not feeling well enough to be in the office. Even if I just have a bad runny nose/cold, I don't think my coworkers want to hear me sniffling and blowing my nose all day. At home, my dog wouldn't care haha

  • Last night I met with a contractor to repair all my home windows, they went through the energy savings and it was mind blowing! If you haven’t had your windows checked, I would highly suggest so!

  • Update on one of our new collection/reprocessing programs here at St. Francis: We are collecting/reprocessing for use, our Neptune Manifolds, used for surgical cases. With all new processes, it takes time for staff to get use to the transition. We have almost doubled our collections since this has started, sending out 35 manifolds this morning!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
In Our Communities Volunteer in My Community
How did volunteering in your community make you feel? What is one thing you can do to help your community become more sustainable?

Volunteer on Earth Day today was a wonderful feeling…I also realized that lots of people think the ground is a great place for cigarettes :/

Picking up trash around our campus felt great, lots of teamwork from many today to make the outside shine!

Educating our community about all the great opportunities and programs around our community is what is like to do. Partnering with different companies to reach a sustainable goal would be my next step!

I realized that I don't normally take time to really look for trash on the ground. When I took the time yesterday, I noticed just how much litter there was! A great reminder to be intentional and mindful of our environment.

  • Happy Earthday, everyone!!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    In Our Communities Plant Trees
How is planting trees good for your mental, physical, and spiritual health?

Several years back, we planted over 50 baby arborvitae, a lot of them are over 3 1/2 feet tall now and it’s amazing to see the growth of these! It was a lot of work putting these in physically, but there’s something about physical labor that makes me feel accomplished. We also did this for peace and serenity, these are variety will reach 6 to 7 feet when fully grown, and it will be our little backyard oasis.
