Amy's actions
In Our Communities
Volunteer in My Community
I will volunteer 1 hour(s) in my community during the challenge.
Health & Well-being
Gratitude
I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for every day.
Health & Well-being
Do Nature Activities
I will engage in nature-based activities alone, or with my friends or family, for 15 minute(s) each day. (This can be anything from going on a walk or hike, to noticing the leaves changing color, to reading a book with nature themes.)
At Home
Learn the Truth about Expiration Dates
I will spend at least 15 minutes learning how to differentiate between sell by, use by, and best by dates.
Health & Well-being
Learn About Constructive Communication
I will spend 15 minute(s) learning about constructive communication.
At Work
Use Reusables at Work
I will keep 2 forks, spoons, and/or knives from entering the landfill by using reusable utensils when eating at work.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONAt Home Learn the Truth about Expiration DatesWhat did you learn about expiration dates? How do you reduce food waste at home? What are some additional ways you can reduce food waste?
Amy Kuehn 4/29/2024 12:13 PMI learned that if cheese has mold on it, you can just scrape it off & the rest of the cheese is fine! It was interesting to learn that the only expiration date mandated is infant formula - the rest is more so the store/manufacturer knows how old the food is. I definitely need to pay closer attention to dates, especially things like milk & yogurt, because sometimes we forget to eat them and we end up having to toss the food (I do the smell check first though! I don't go by the date). -
Amy Kuehn 4/29/2024 12:02 PMDamian had football games yesterday even though it was raining! Thankful for a rain jacket & umbrella! :) The coach put up a tent for the kids but of course they stood in the rain most of the afternoon lol -
Amy Kuehn 4/18/2024 1:59 PMIn case there are other sports-obsessed people like me! :) Front Office Sports is hosting a Sustainability event/webinar on Monday. Could be a fun listen on your break or to have on as background noise. I know Roger McClendon from Green Sports Alliance, who is part of the session 2 panel!

Josh Yamauchi (St. Francis Regional Medical Center) 4/19/2024 7:09 AMAwesome! Do we need to register? Will be interesting to hear their perspective. -
Nicole Poletto 4/18/2024 2:13 PMVery cool, thank you for sharing Amy! A friend of mine did their Master's thesis on how to make sporting events (like MLB games) more sustainable. I'm definitely going to share the invite with them, totally up their alley.

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & Well-being GratitudeWhat is one thing that you are grateful for today? How does practicing gratitude make you feel?
Amy Kuehn 4/18/2024 1:34 PMI was looking at what I wrote for previous days and I had written on separate days that I was grateful for sunny days & rainy days lol
Interesting how the weather can change your mood but also to be grateful for those rainy days that make me feel calm (and help my family of farmers!!).-
Kathryn Schroeder 4/19/2024 7:51 AMAs I've written down gratitude each day for this challenge, I've put them on post it notes around my desk/monitors to serve as a constant reminder that there are so many things to be thankful for.

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & Well-being Do Nature ActivitiesWhat did you observe while spending time outside -- through sight, sound, smell and/or touch? How did you feel after spending time outdoors?
Amy Kuehn 4/16/2024 2:37 PMIt was tough to find something to do since it's raining and I can't spend time outside! I thought about listening to nature sounds but they're all sleep music lol
I ended up finding a podcast called "Nerdy About Nature" and listened to an episode about Indigenous Involvement in Outdoor Sports. Interesting conversation about racism faced while trying to enjoy outdoor sports-
Kathryn Schroeder 4/17/2024 6:17 AMI'm definitely also someone who enjoys staying indoors when it's raining. It's such a calming sound so I usually try to keep the TV off and pick up a book or a crochet project - something cozy! That sounds like a great podcast! -
Zoe Anastas (SWMC) 4/16/2024 2:44 PMSomeone once told me "there is no bad weather only bad gear". Have you tried a good, even used, rain jacket and some boots? I go outdoors now year around although in some weather, I prefer to come back in sooner than later if it is raining/sleet with super cold temperatures. One of my dogs, on the other hand, is not super fond of the rainy weather even with a jacket. Sometimes sitting outside in a covered area but where you can still enjoy the sound and smell of the rainy weather can feel centering though?
