sara mileni 4/30/2024 6:31 PMit was a nice day to plant my asparagus! can't wait to start harvesting next year! I got 2-year-old roots, but you have to wait a year to harvest so they can become "established" in the ground or you will kill or effect the growth in the future. always research and read the instructions it comes with for planting and harvesting! next are Strawberrys and rhubarb. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIn Our Communities Volunteer in My CommunityHow did volunteering in your community make you feel? What is one thing you can do to help your community become more sustainable?
sara mileni 4/22/2024 6:13 PMit felt good volunteering for earth day clean up! other things we can volunteer for is at the food shelf to help make sure our community is fed!-

sara mileni 4/18/2024 9:27 AMwell, I finally finished my home-made compost bin! I am very excited to show you all! the only things I bought was the latch, the hinge for the door and the wood! The screws are left over from projects and from my old door, the pipe I found in a garbage, the handle was from an old screen door, the "seal" around the door is left over parts from the new door, and the barrel I found on marketplace for free! This was so fun to make and to figure out how to make it out of reusable things instead of buying stuff!-
Cecilia Wright 4/18/2024 1:41 PMLooks great! Way to use stuff you have around your house. -
Josh Yamauchi (St. Francis Regional Medical Center) 4/18/2024 1:16 PMThis looks awesome, Sara! -
Emily Katzin 4/18/2024 12:41 PMAmazing! You did such a great job with this and it is so cool that you reused so many materials to make it! -

sara mileni 4/16/2024 9:55 AMearth day is next week! who's planning to go on a walk and clean up their neighborhood? I remember back in school that was always a homework assignment for earth day!-
Zoe Anastas (SWMC) 4/16/2024 2:54 PMAnd we would also pick-up trash in our geographic area on Earth Day as well! Although, trash pick-up is good on any day! I try to pick-up trash on my dog walks. The other day I found a few alcohol containers on my walk and came home with them to place them in the recycle bin. My husband gave me a "side-eye" about the empty Fireball and Jim Beam bottles in my hands at 7:30 a.m. :-)

REFLECTION QUESTIONAt Home Choose Clean/Renewable EnergyWas it easy or difficult to sign up for renewable energy in your area? Did you learn anything that surprised you while making this transition?
sara mileni 4/16/2024 9:47 AMIt's difficult to sign up for most of the benefits available for my house. unfortunate because my house is from 1927, they want me to get an electrical inspection of my house than buy a new air conditioner, the other appliances in my house are gas. The only thing I am able to do is a smart thermostat, which I am going to try. I'm not too into having all the smart stuff. yes, it's nice to be able to control stuff from your phone but I feel the newer stuff has more malfunctions than a plain old turn dial thermostat. But it is 2024 and I guess it's time to adapt to the new.-
Josh Yamauchi (St. Francis Regional Medical Center) 4/16/2024 11:06 AMWay to do the research, Sara!

REFLECTION QUESTIONAt Work Work From HomeWhat have you found to be the biggest pros and cons of working from home?
sara mileni 4/15/2024 6:46 PMunfortunately, I am not able to work from home. but the pros would be saving on my carbon footprint as I work 40 minutes away, and a con would be that it is harder to communicate with colleagues and would not get the healthy interactions with people.-
Kathryn Schroeder 4/16/2024 6:27 AMSaving time and fuel with no commute is definitely the biggest pro! Whenever we've moved, we always try to find an apartment that is as close to both of our work places as possible.
