Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • So much has changed in the last thirty days, more weeds to remove, more plants to nurture, more conversations to reflect on, more projects to accomplish, and more energy efficient windows going in my old wonderfully comfortable home! Thankful for all of this and the eco challenge. Stay aware and in tune with the world around us!

  • Spring has sprung, the heavens have opened and our bird house nest moving adventure was a success! Nature is so amazing.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    At Work Prevent Recycling Contamination
What have you learned about what is accepted by local haulers for recycling, what you can drop off or ship to certain places, and what is not recyclable in your area? What is the most difficult part of recycling for you?

I want everything to be recycled. Finding ways to get items I do not need any longer to a good second home is a lot harder than I thought it would be. Living in a rural area just like internet choices we really lack places to remove items onward in their journey!

  • Earth day is every day, take the “h” from earth and place it in the beginning and you get “heart”. Use your heart to keep us all on this Earth!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
At Home Switch to Cold Water
How else can you reduce the environmental footprint of clothing and textiles?

Reuse textiles in art projects, give away for others to use or reuse, donate to organizations who use them for animals or humans in need.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
In Our Communities Support Diverse and Locally-Owned Businesses
What did you enjoy most about shopping at a diverse and/or locally-owned business? What are some of your favorite diverse and/or locally-owned businesses to shop at in your area?

local farms I am surrounded by them and supply my own eggs, honey, fruits, and veges from my yard. I dehydrate, freeze, or process items to save for nonpeak use. you can freeze eggs; it is an option. there are local beef, poultry, pork, and other farms all around my area. I live in a small town ~3000 people.

    • I use an Excalibur 9 tray; but you could go smaller. I love that it has a timer. I have used it inside my home, outside on the covered porch and even in the garage. depending on the weather and /or season. It does warm the space it is in.

Do you have a particular dehydrator that you use? I have been trying to decide which brand to go with?
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Health & Well-being Learn About Constructive Communication
What is one way you would like to improve your communication skills? Why is constructive communication important at work and at home?

First since most of my communication is via Teams or email; read it again before you hit send! Remember when you are personally in a lousy mood don't impart that on the current conversation as the receiver is not part of your lousy mood. Try to be positive even when you don't necessarily feel positive.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    At Work Greener Purchasing
What green attributes do you look for when making purchasing decisions?

where is made or grown, how is it packaged, how long will it last, and will it standup to my version of usage?
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    At Work Stay Connected
What are some of the benefits you've noticed from connecting with colleagues at work?

since I work remotely the "caregiver connection" has been lost; working via Teams with a caregiver gives back a little of the people-connection we all normally crave.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    At Home Choose Clean/Renewable Energy
Was it easy or difficult to sign up for renewable energy in your area? Did you learn anything that surprised you while making this transition?

it was easy, there are lots of rebates on energy efficient items like windows, appliances, etc.
