Review Allina Health's Climate Action Plan
Allina Health's sustainability program is one important way we support the people we serve by minimizing the impact of our physical footprint. Check out our Climate Action Plan on the AKN which will fulfill our pledge to: reduce our greenhouse gas emissions, become more resilient to the impacts of climate change, and engage with staff and our community to promote climate education and encourage action.

Have you heard of the company Imperfect foods? They finally added my area to their delivery places so I can give them a try, but the premise of their business is to decrease food waste. They sell items that are too "ugly" to sell in traditional grocery stores. Take a peek and perhaps give them a try. Grocery Delivery for Organic Food, Fresh Produce & More-
Candice Miller (NVH) 4/28/2025 9:43 AMThank you for sharing, Melissa. I am excited to check it out and see if they are in my area. I buy most things from local farms and farmers markets; however, they are not open every day and do not have everything I need. It's nice to have other sustainable options.

An option for reducing your single use paper products is to use fabric instead. I found this shop on Amazon originally and love these for napkins and cloth to put in with lettuce to absorb the extra moisture. Best part is I color code for different holidays and seasons! What kind of swaps have you made?

I just wanted to pop over and say thanks for sharing this on my feed as well! Love supporting small businesses and finding more sustainable items!
I’ve used the Swedish Dish Cloths instead of paper towels for when I’m cleaning off the counters!

REFLECTION QUESTIONOne HealthcareHow did you feel before and after completing this exercise? What step(s) do you plan to take next?
Melissa Ondricek 4/08/2025 9:37 AMI feel I have been a good advocate for years as I saw habitat destruction for the animals I worked with for 17 years as a Zookeeper. Keeper chats are always based on what the visitors can do to help the wild counterpart of the species they see in front of them. As I have been out of the field for two years now, I continue to advocate for local wildlife especially pollinators and try to educate neighbors why they should not use chemicals on their lawn which hurts the pollinator populations and the waterways. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIn Our CommunitiesDid procuring local ingredients impact the way you think about food or the meals you decided to prepare? If so, how?
Melissa Ondricek 4/08/2025 9:17 AM- Conservationist 🦒
It is a lot more difficult living in the north to obtain local produce. Meat and eggs are easier to come by during the winter months. I can't wait for farmers markets to be prevalent!-
Neil Yeager 4/08/2025 10:15 AM- Foodie 🍱
There is one of the best farmers markets around near where I live, and I share your sentiment; I can't wait for it to start up again this year!

REFLECTION QUESTIONAt WorkHow do you avoid greenwashing? What are additional steps you can take?
Melissa Ondricek 4/07/2025 1:22 PM- Conservationist 🦒
I try to educate myself the best I can and when I learn something new I change my habits. One example of this are cleaning pods for laundry or dishes. The casing they say is ecofriendly, but it's really made of a water-soluble, petroleum-based plastic called polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) which breaks down into microplastics. After learning this I am searching for new options to be plastic free. I just ordered from Blueland to try their pellet cleaners.-
Andrew Kirchner 4/07/2025 2:02 PM- Green Team Leader 🤝
I like to use Earth Breeze laundry detergent sheets. They are super concentrated dry sheets of laundry detergent making them just as easy to use as a pod (no measuring) and lighter weight (less CO2) to ship than liquid or powder.
I also like to use a clothesline (both outdoors and indoors) to dry my clothes. When I need to use the electric dryer, I have a diverter on the vent that directs some of the warm air back into the house in the winter (Just be careful with mold as it is moist air).

REFLECTION QUESTIONOne HealthcareDoes working with others toward a common cause motivate or inspire you to act differently than you otherwise would? How can collaboration lead to more sustainable outcomes?
Melissa Ondricek 4/04/2025 11:46 AM- Conservationist 🦒
It doesn't inspire me to act differently, but it is easier to build habits that are sustainable when you work with others to remain accountable. The more you do an action the better muscle memory to do that action automatically like turning off a light switch as you leave a room. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIn Our CommunitiesHow does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community? What was the most common item you found littered?
Melissa Ondricek 4/04/2025 11:31 AM- Conservationist 🦒
It is everyone's job to keep our community clean. Paper and cans seem to be the most prevalent.-
Amanda Holloway 4/04/2025 12:52 PM- Nature Steward 🌳
I completely agree that it's everyone's job to keep our environment clean! I was just picking up litter on my lunchtime walk and picked up several beverage containers (plastic and aluminum). Disposable wipes seem to be more prevalent now, too.

REFLECTION QUESTIONIn Our CommunitiesWhy is it important to consider how and to whom you donate your no-longer-needed items?
Melissa Ondricek 4/04/2025 9:50 AM- Conservationist 🦒
It's important to learn the business practices and morals to see if they align with yours. When I can I try to sell on Facebook or post items on buy nothing pages. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & Well-beingHow do you practice self care? Why is it important?
Melissa Ondricek 4/04/2025 9:32 AM- Conservationist 🦒
Routine massages monthly. You can't help others if your battery is always drained.
