I couldn't agree more! Not having to commute saves me almost an hour of time per day I work from home. And knowing I won't spend money on lunch since I have plenty of food in my kitchen to pull from.

In Chicago, we have three refill shops, which are so much fun. They are great to visit as I try to move away/use less plastic. I take big, glass Mason jars and add dish soap, hand soap, and dishwashing detergent. I'm also enjoying my shampoo bar and conditioner, and bamboo toothbrush with powder toothpaste. So much fun!

What is the most exciting thing that you learned about your community? Did you learn something about your community that will change the way you engage with it?

When I was on a walk the other day, I stopped by my local bike shop. They were setting up for an event, so I asked what the event was. The owner proceeded to tell me the long story of how her dog ate a sock and had to get emergency surgery. Long story short, the owner did not have the funds to support the surgery, but with the help of the community, the dog was able to receive the care he needed. The event that night was to thank all those who helped during a very high stress time. The dog that had received the surgery was at the bike shop and is doing well. Such a special story. Continue to build connections with those around you and offer support when you can.

How could you encourage your coworkers to develop the habit of turning lights off?

I think this is where signage could be helpful form of encouragement. Placing a friendly reminder near light switches. I can think of a few common areas where signs like these would be helpful. Sometimes people just need a simple reminder.

Why is it important to express ourselves? How did you feel before and after your creative activity?

    Lucy Pilgrim-Rukavina 's avatar
    Lucy Pilgrim-Rukavina 4/02/2025 6:09 AM
Mental health. I think the ability to express ourselves can help improve our overall mental well-being. After my workout this morning which I ended with a seated meditation, I felt a lot freer and an ability to take on more as I was able to relieve myself of some pent-up emotions.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

What is one thing that you are grateful for today? How does practicing gratitude make you feel?

    Lucy Pilgrim-Rukavina 's avatar
    Lucy Pilgrim-Rukavina 4/02/2025 6:05 AM
Comfort - being able to have a warm place to work, a home to return to, and all the other little things that make life more enjoyable. Practicing gratitude makes me feel more content with my current situation and less stressed.
