Sara's actions
At Home
Repair an Item
I will repair an item, such as clothing or an appliance, for myself, a friend, family member, or neighbor.
At Work
Last to Leave? Lights Out, Please!
Lighting makes up approximately 10% of hospitals' energy use on average. I will save energy by turning off unnecessary lights when not in use and when I am the last one to leave a space.
At Home
Switch to Cold Water
I will switch to washing my clothes in cold water, saving up to 1,600 lbs of CO2 over the course of the next year.
In Our Communities
Plant Trees
I will plant 1 tree(s) in my community, public parks, or backyard. Check out resources for which tree species are best to plant in your area.
One Healthcare
Explore the Feed
I will read the Ecochallenge feed each day and comment on posts by people who I don't know, but whose content inspires or interests me.
One Healthcare
Medical Device Reprocessing
I will spend 30 minutes learning about what medical device reprocessing is and how it works, including whether my organization has a program, and if so, which items it collects.
One Healthcare
Use A Reusable Mug/Bottle
I will keep 10 disposable cup(s) and/or bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle, cup, or mug.
At Work
Use Reusables at Work
I will keep 2 forks, spoons, and/or knives from entering the landfill by using reusable utensils when eating at work.
Health & Well-being
Go Get a Check Up
I will make 1 appointments to support my health and well-being (primary care provider, dental, vision, etc.)
At Home
Dishwasher Efficiency
Hand washing dishes can use more energy and hot water than running a full dishwasher. To save water, I will scrape instead of rinsing dishes before loading them into the dishwasher, and only run it when it is full.
Health & Well-being
Healthy Hydration
I will improve hydration by drinking an additional 12oz of water each day. I will do this by drinking additional servings of water or by drinking water in place of other less healthy beverage options.
In Our Communities
Buy From a Farmers Market
I will purchase produce and/or meat from a local farmers market or food co-op to make 2 locally-sourced meals.
One Healthcare
One Healthcare Ecochallenge Survey
Your voice matters! Help us improve the One Healthcare Ecochallenge by taking our survey, available starting April 23rd.
In Our Communities
Support Local Wildlife
I will take one action to support local wildlife, such as adding a food or water source, creating shelter/habitat, preventing light pollution, eliminating bird strikes, or another action.
At Work
Greenwashing
I will spend 30 minutes learning about greenwashing and how to avoid it.
At Work
Greener Purchasing
I will select a greener option when purchasing supplies, such as products that have environmental certifications, less packaging, or other environmental attributes, or come from local vendors.
Health & Well-being
Learn About Constructive Communication
I will spend 30 minute(s) learning about constructive communication.
In Our Communities
Support Diverse and Locally-Owned Businesses
I will promote equity and support my community by purchasing items at 2 diverse- and/or locally-owned businesses.
In Our Communities
Use Reusable Bags
I will refuse 1 of single-use paper or plastic bags each day by bringing my own reusable bags or carrying purchased goods another way.
At Work
Prevent Recycling Contamination
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will spend 30 minutes learning about which items are recyclable both at my workplace and at home since they may be different, and recycle only those items.
In Our Communities
Support Pollution Reduction
I will spend at least 30 minutes learning about water and air quality issues in my area, how they are impacting human and environmental health, and how I can help.
In Our Communities
Donate Items
I will help others in need and prevent useful items from going to landfill by donating 10 items.

Let the rain kiss you. Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops. Let the rain sing you a lullaby. The rain makes still pools on the sidewalk. The rain makes running pools in the gutter. The rain plays a little sleep song on our roof at night. And I love the rain.

I love indie bookstores, used bookstores, little free libraries, and basically all things books. I tend to buy, but have a harder time giving them up. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONIn Our CommunitiesWhy is it important to consider how and to whom you donate your no-longer-needed items?
Sara Rediske she/her (SWMC) 4/26/2025 3:56 PMAre the items actually going to be used by who I am donating them to? Or are they going to be dumped into a landfill by the organization? Can the items be recycled/re-used and there is then no need for donation? -
Sara Rediske she/her (SWMC) 4/25/2025 9:05 PMHappy Arbor Day! I enjoyed a nice walk along a path with cherry trees kicking out the last of their blossoms. Wonderful way to get out in nature and appreciate some trees!-

REFLECTION QUESTIONIn Our CommunitiesWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items, but don't have a reusable one with you or aren't allowed to use the one you brought? What tips do you have for others who are trying to form a habit of using reusable bags?
Sara Rediske she/her (SWMC) 4/22/2025 1:38 PMI have extra bags stashed in my backpack, in my car, and at my house. I have yet to have a store not let me use my own bag. Initially, I had to remind myself to bring bags when I left the house. But it quickly became a habit that made me feel really good.
