I will repair an item, such as clothing or an appliance, for myself, a friend, family member, or neighbor.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

At Work

Last to Leave? Lights Out, Please!

Lighting makes up approximately 10% of hospitals' energy use on average. I will save energy by turning off unnecessary lights when not in use and when I am the last one to leave a space.

COMPLETED 29

Switch to Cold Water

I will switch to washing my clothes in cold water, saving up to 1,600 lbs of CO2 over the course of the next year.

COMPLETED 29
DAILY ACTIONS

Health & Well-being

Healthy Hydration

I will improve hydration by drinking an additional 12oz of water each day. I will do this by drinking additional servings of water or by drinking water in place of other less healthy beverage options.

“Anything else you’re interested in is not going to happen if you can’t breathe the air and drink the water. Don’t sit this one out. Do something. You are by accident of fate alive at an absolutely critical moment in the history of our planet.” - Carl Sagan

Let the rain kiss you. Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops. Let the rain sing you a lullaby. The rain makes still pools on the sidewalk. The rain makes running pools in the gutter. The rain plays a little sleep song on our roof at night. And I love the rain.

Celebrated Independent Bookstore Day today! Donated about 10 books to a local shop and to our hospital activity cart bookshelves. My donation at The Romance Era even got me a discount on my purchase. Win/win!

I love indie bookstores, used bookstores, little free libraries, and basically all things books. I tend to buy, but have a harder time giving them up.

Why is it important to consider how and to whom you donate your no-longer-needed items?

    Sara Rediske she/her (SWMC)'s avatar
    Sara Rediske she/her (SWMC) 4/26/2025 3:56 PM
Are the items actually going to be used by who I am donating them to? Or are they going to be dumped into a landfill by the organization? Can the items be recycled/re-used and there is then no need for donation?

Happy Arbor Day! I enjoyed a nice walk along a path with cherry trees kicking out the last of their blossoms. Wonderful way to get out in nature and appreciate some trees!

I’m looking forward to the farmers markets and nothing beats opening windows to let the fresh air in. Good for mental and physical wellbeing!

What do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items, but don't have a reusable one with you or aren't allowed to use the one you brought? What tips do you have for others who are trying to form a habit of using reusable bags?

    Sara Rediske she/her (SWMC)'s avatar

I have extra bags stashed in my backpack, in my car, and at my house. I have yet to have a store not let me use my own bag. Initially, I had to remind myself to bring bags when I left the house. But it quickly became a habit that made me feel really good.
