I had the opportunity to check out a new second hand/cosignment shop near my house. Not only did they have some great vintage finds, but also provided re-upholstery services, saving furniture from the dump!-

There's a great cafe in my Milwaukee neighborhood (Riverwest) called The Daily Bird. It's locally owned, and I typically work remote from this location Friday mornings. If you every see me, stop by and say hi! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAt WorkWhat green attributes do you look for when making purchasing decisions?
Mark Silva 4/24/2025 7:26 AMBefore buying new things, I always visit a local second-hand store to see if they have what I need, specifically clothing! I also like to look for interesting art, furniture, or other home goods. -

Glad to see great participation from the team! I enjoy reading reflections (the high-fives are a nice touch, too). Happy Earth Day, y'all! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONOne HealthcareHow did performing random acts of kindness make you feel? Were you surprised by any of the responses you received from recipients?
Mark Silva 4/21/2025 10:19 AM- Recycler ♻
Random acts of kindness don't have to be grandiose - it could be picking up some trash, or even helping a kind old lady how to turn off her hazard lights in a grocery store parking lot (true story!)-

REFLECTION QUESTIONIn Our CommunitiesWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items, but don't have a reusable one with you or aren't allowed to use the one you brought? What tips do you have for others who are trying to form a habit of using reusable bags?

For a holiday over the weekend, I needed to pick up some last minute grocery items. I typically bring a reusable bag, but forgot this time. Luckily there weren't too many items, so I carried them by hand. Super easy to do, plus I won't have too many extra plastic bags laying around at home!-
Thameenah Saleem 4/21/2025 10:21 AM- Zero Waste Advocate 🗣
Exactly! I want to reduce the number of plastic bags in my home - they are so hazardous. I always look for paper bags.

REFLECTION QUESTIONIn Our CommunitiesWhat did you enjoy most about shopping at a diverse and/or locally-owned business? What are some of your favorite diverse and/or locally-owned businesses to shop at in your area?
Mark Silva 4/18/2025 12:03 PM- Recycler ♻
My mom is a small business owner. It's good for communities and the economy to support local businesses. Some are also closer to home, so less driving! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAt WorkWhile one's plastic cutlery is a seemingly very small part of someone's "plastic impact", why do you think it's important for us to address this opportunity to reduce?
Mark Silva 4/17/2025 8:59 AM- Recycler ♻
I work from home, so almost always use reusable utensils. If eating out, I share I do not need plasticware to accompany to-go items.-
Paul Goodenough 4/17/2025 9:26 AMI'd love to see an economic breakdown of why places offer single-use plastic instead of reusable. I know the answer comes down to $$$ but I wonder if a nuanced look at the systemic drivers of that could help us find systemic solutions that don't put the burden on our favorite restaurants, which likely want to do the right thing but are operating on razor thin margins.
