I will save up to 4 gallons (15 L) of water each day by turning it off while brushing my teeth.
At Work
Last to Leave? Lights Out, Please!

Josh Yamauchi (St. Francis Regional Medical Center) 4/14/2025 8:38 PMRemember that every little action makes a difference. Turning off lights in break room after you are done, picking up a single piece of trash on your walk, carrying a refillable water bottle. These are all things that can be done daily & they can also become conversation starters.-

We just donated 15 bags to the secondhand store ( i have 5 kids) and it felt good. I do wish they did not charge so much to purchase second hand though. Some of the items are prices as expensive as when you purchase them knew.

REFLECTION QUESTIONAt HomeDo you live in an area that is water secure or with water scarcity? What other actions do you take to use water more efficiently?
Josh Yamauchi (St. Francis Regional Medical Center) 4/10/2025 1:58 PMI live in an area that is water secure. I currently limit my showers to approximately 5 mins, handwash as many dishes as I can, instead of using the dishwasher & Wash clothing in larger loads. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONOne HealthcareWhat surprised you most about the healthcare industry's impact on climate and health? What is one action you can take to make a positive impact?
Josh Yamauchi (St. Francis Regional Medical Center) 4/10/2025 1:52 PMThe amount of hazardous waste is troubling. Our sustainability team is working hard on finding ways to reduce waste & opting into programs where we can reprocess or refurbish certain items. -
Josh Yamauchi (St. Francis Regional Medical Center) 4/10/2025 1:44 PMWhat are some things that you currently do at home to reduce water usage? I believe I can do better, looking for some examples!-
Emma Krayneski 4/10/2025 2:15 PM- Everyday Earth Hero 💚
Keeping sink off when brushing teeth, taking quick showers at colder temperatures, to water plants you could use water from any dishes soaking in the sink - or for outdoor plants you can get a rain barrel (search if they are allowed in your area first), when washing hands keep the water pressure low, overall just trying to reuse water instead of dumping it down the drain, always making sure hoses are turned off properly, etc!

Candice Miller (NVH) 4/09/2025 9:43 PMThis is such a great quote, Josh!
Dan is so right. It is our creativity, resourcefulness, and ability make something out of nothing which will find ways to sustain us. My hope is that this challenge & all of you will inspire me, inspire others to discover a spark of ingenuity that will add up to lasting change.

I don't have space for a garden, but I enjoy taking food from my mom or either of my grandma's gardens! Zucchini and tomatoes are my favorites from their gardens :) -

My daughter's school received a hefty grant to grow a garden and incorporate the produce into their cafeterias! They had an open call for volunteers last week to begin planting and we couldn't wait to go! She and I planted all kinds of peppers, peas, eggplant, loofah, zucchini, tomatoes, purple basil, corn, lettuce, and corn to name a few. Our meeting for this week is postponed because Winter decided to come back, but next week, we will be back out there getting things ready! For our home, I'd love to plant some Zinnias in our front flower box! -

That's exciting having your first crop. Taste is so much better than store bought. We grew cabbage over the winter. We got creative with recipes, so delicious! Now we are growing Zucchini and yellow squash, green chilis, bell peppers, cucumbers and romaine lettuce. Hoping for a good bounty. -
Linda Hammock 4/08/2025 4:55 AMI am harvesting my first crop of green beans here in Florida. We had some with our dinner last night! I have also been growing parsley, rosemary and thyme and incorporating those into our meals.

We adopt our county road in a 3 mile section, 6 miles total of ditch clean up. Once it is clean for the season we then stop anytime we see garbage out there. It has been a family investment. We are looking forward to kicking off the season this next weekend together. We usually challenge each other on who can find the most unique or "gross" thing in the ditch and actually touch it to pick it up! :) -
Lucy Pilgrim-Rukavina 4/08/2025 6:10 AMThere is so much now that the snow has melted. Looking forward to hosting our campus cleanup day soon!
