I just wanted to say that I am so proud of our team! It has been awesome to see what we have done collectively, and we made an awesome showing for our first year of participation. Thank you to everyone, and I hope to see many of you at the celebration tomorrow!

Before you started this challenge, did you think you were 'addicted' to sugar? How do you feel now?

I had a pretty good idea of my diet and sugar intake, this was a fun way to keep myself in check.

I came to the challenge later in the month and now I don't want it to end! It has made me more conscious of everything I do. Plus, there's so much good content on this site and great resources when you choose to learn more. Just wanted to say a big thank you!

I was just thinking about how sad I am that the month is just about over. I mean, I know we can keep doing these things on our own, and we absolutely should. But the tracking and the friendly competition helps a lot, too. We just might have to set some things up in our facilities to keep it going (that is probably the point, eh?). Joining later is better than not joining at all!

The New York Times recently published a climate-related article titled “50 States, 50 Fixes.” Sharing here the Massachusetts solution focused on food waste—I found it very informative and learned a lot. Thank you!

What are some of the barriers to sharing economies? What is your plan for supporting or creating one in your community? If you focused on purchasing items second-hand, did you have success? What did you learn in the process?

I am more conscientious about being a minimalist by adopting the habit of buying less clothes. And when I do buy an item, I will try to choose styles that can be easily mixed and matched so I can create more outfits with what I already have.
I will continue to think of ways to reduce, reuse and repurpose items I have to avoid buying. I repurposed a black takeout container to serve as a pot for flowers that I had started from last year’s seeds. I use reusable green waste bags for brush/leaves instead of buying the brown garden bags. Additionally I always bring my reusable bags with me to stores to avoid using their bags. I find that people take a lot of time and intentionality to adopt this mindset so I will continue to encourage others to reduce reuse and recycle. Habits take time to build.

On Earth Day my husband and I spent an hour and a half walking around a wooded area along the road we live on picking up all kinds of litter. It felt great to be out in the fresh air and sunshine enjoying a walk while cleaning up the neighborhood.

How did volunteering in your community make you feel? What is one thing you can do to help your community become more sustainable?

Volunteering made me happy to give back to Boston for all the happiness it has given me. Cleaning the Charles River, such an important site for public life, was truly fulfilling.
